McCain's pastor isnt really a fan of islam...

Postby got tonkaed on Thu May 22, 2008 12:40 pm

I dont think its actually his pastor personally, but this pastor who is essentially an endorser of mccain and was positioned as part of his campaign, and was called by mccain as a great leader in America, and a moral compass.

Pretty short video if you havent seen it. Maybe not quite Romney esque, but probably not the type of thing that will make many diplomatic headways.

I look at this about the same way I look at Reverend Wright: A very religious guy who's also very hateful? NO WAI!

I actually think its slightly different. Im pretty sure this guy was sought out to be a part of mccains campaign, whereas Reverend Wright kind of ends up showing up, just because of affiliation for so long. Furthermore i think there are two potentially ugly truths about this selection.

1) if mccain chose him because he is in concert with some of the views of the Reverend, then we probably arent going to have much of a headway with the middle east diplomatically
2) if it is true, as was suggested in the video, that the campaign didnt know about the pastors stances, despite their relatively availability... it kind of says some negative things about how far mccain is willing to go to pander to the religious right, which he was believed to be attacking almost a decade ago. Hes kind of sold himself out a little bit if thats the case, but people have charged him of that for a few years now quietly.

... Wow. Now I recall why I don't watch news on TV.

... I like that last bit, where the female commentator says, "yes, we heard that right on stage, 'Spritual guide and leader' ". Lest our attention spans were too short and to drive the point home.

... Is this what passes for news these days? Frightening.

... On topic, though, McCain wants to walk the middle line on everything. This guy's just too weak.

You don't understand, McCain obviously made a very human mistake while Obama is a corrupt, socialist america-hater.

Actually it seems like it might become a running issue. I saw something pretty quick on tv flipping through the channels today, and it appeared there was another Christian Right pastor, who McCain disassociated with, because the pastor said some pretty controversial things about Jews in the past.

Im paraphrasing the end here, but i believe the comments were something to the effect of "God sent Adolf Hitler to help the Jews (that part im sure of ) to reach the promised land (i believe though that part might be off).

When McCain was altered to this, basically when someone dug it up, he quickly distanced himself from the pastor. So thats two in the last few days.

Pastors are so shady these days. Where can one turn for guidance now?

Except ...
Obama repudiated Reverand Wright's words almost immediately, within DAYS. (I like the man, but not this speech )

McCain .. ACCEPTED the endorsement wholeheartedly at first.

MONTHS Later, changed to "I am happy for the endorsement, but do not like everything he says

ONLY NOW ... does McCain finally decline the endorsement.

Yet Obama had gone to the guy's church for years. Only when it finally came up did he actually do anything, and even then he initially took the "I don't agree with everything he says" track. Personally I think it's stupid to decline an endorsement (in both cases) just because they have radical views on particular issues. It's about the person's character, not their political beliefs.
