Like in general? That's pretty broad.

You need to be specific on what you need.

Seeing as gimil's a Scot, not too sure, the Constitution is too relevant, never mind federalism

Certainly one way to put it, but another would be: Liberals-Apologists whom seem to feel guilty of being white and want conservatives to feel the same way too.
Conservatives-Believe that everyone has the ability to work their way to the top, no matter the background and feel no shame in being what they are.

conservatives = could be smart if they were capable of walking in other people's shoes. since they aren't, getting sex from the ladies isn't that hard, you just have to play a part. you have to have all the right clothes, drop all the right names, have good table manners. and then they will do you. just don't mention who you voted for in 2004, cause she'll drop your ass on the quick.
socialists = communists. they want to eat your braynes.

For the rest of the world, Liberalism means you feel that the government has a roll in ensuring that the powerful don't completely overpower and exploit the less powerful. Schools need to be supported because our society is better if each child is educated with certain basic information, including reading, math, science, how our government works and enough other stuff to be able to think intelligently. The environment needs to be protected because company self interests DO NOT take externalities into account. Pollution hurts us all, but individual companies can profit if allowed to pollute... the check and balance of the market don't work there, so the government has a roll.Similarly, the government have a roll in ensuring a decent transportation system. HOWEVER, liberals want individual freedoms, such as the right to speak on various topics, the right to have your own religion (as long as its not harmful to others), etc.
-----
Conservatives talk about freedom from government, but really just mean economic freedom of large companies. Ironically, within the US at least, when it comes to individual freedom, they WANT government control ... they want the government to mandate certain religious principals, etc. They generally do support the use and ownership of guns, but want certain limits to free speech.
________
Socialists feel the government is best in charge of most everything. They want a certain amount of free market, but then want taxes to equalize what folks get and how they live, at least when it comes to necessities.
----
In reality, NO one form will suffice in a real government. In reality, we need a combination of all of these.
