I would be more interested in the playoffs if the Canucks were in the finals.

The Flyers have been impressive. Should make for a good series out east, between Philly and Pittsburgh.

Dallas won't be the Yankees will they? If they win (I think they'd better do it in game 6, or there's trouble) you got to like Detroit vs. Dallas. Turco has never won at the JLA, and Detroit just seems to do well against the Stars.

we'll see but I dont believe the Red Wings to be an unbeatable powerhouse at all. They've been a soft team in the playoffs over the past few seasons. They've looked impressive so far but Colorado might have been the weakest team in the playoffs. Colorado was ripe for a blow out.

A Flyers/Red Wings match up could be similar to the 1995 New Jersey/Red Wing final with the Flyers playing the role of New Jersey.

People have been underestimating the Flyers the entire post-season, nobody seems to realize that the Flyers had the most 20 goal scorers during the season (7), they can roll out 3 legitimate scoring lines. 2 of those lines (Carter and Richards) can also be legitimate shut down lines as well. Their top 9 forwards are deeper than any other team. The Timonen/Coburn pairing is playing as well as anyone and Biron has been great. The Flyers also have great veteran leadership as can be seen by their resiliency. Smith, Hatcher, Briere, Timonen are all former captains and Mike Richards will be the captain of the Flyers soon for the next 12 years.

I could be wrong, if they play in the finals the Red Wings could sweep them but I honestly dont think this is a great team. They certainly as good as the Yzerman led Cup teams.

2008 Red Wings are closer to the 1995 Red Wings than the 1997 Red Wings imo.

I take a little issue with calling this Wings team soft. Maybe you missed last years Western Finals vs. Anaheim... That was a very even series, that Detroit could have won, maybe would have won with Matheiu Schneider in the lineup. And remember too, last year Detroit beat Calgary and San Jose, two teams that tried to play physical with them, and Detroit shut them down. And if you want to talk about lines, Detroit can match up with anyone. Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Holmstrom, followed by Franzen/Filppula/Samuelsson, with Franzen being the hottest player in hockey.

Anyway, hopefully Detroit can keep it up and make it to the finals! :D

I'm not sure their softness in previous years is applicable to this year. They have a habit of disappointing, it seems, but they just set fire to Colorado, regardless of the Av's health. I don't think a comparison to '95 is fair, but we'll just have to see if the '97 is reachable.

the main point is that I dont see this REd Wing team as the unbeatable juggernaut that everyone is promoting them to be. Perhaps they are such a team but that has yet to be proven. Everyone outside of Philly doesnt give the Flyers any chance against Pittsburgh or any of the WEst teams in a potential final matchup. I see some similarties between this Flyer team and the Jersey cup teams. I should know because New Jersey beat the Flyers in the east finals in 1995 and 2000 and tormented the Flyers for a decade.

Going into the 1997 Final I thought the Red Wings were going to win the series, I didnt think the Flyers had much of a chance even though everyone around Philly was viewing them as the favorites.

I would feel much more confident this season if the two teams met.
To be honest the team that scared me the most out of any other in the playoffs were the Habs.

I'm not predicting nor expecting anything but I honestly havent felt this good about a Flyer team since the 1987 team that lost to Edmonton in the finals in 7 games w/o their best scorer Tim Kerr.

W/ that said if the Pens make the finals I expect them to beat either team from the West and that would make me sick.

i'm not gonna argue over who's got a better team, because we'll never convince each other otherwise... but if you really think that the second goal that the flyers scored in game 7 was legit, you should probably stop watching hockey

I'd be lying if I said I stayed up and watched it... but that Dallas/San Jose game went to the 9:03 mark of QUADRUPLE OVERTIME! 8th longest game on record. Stars won 2-1.

Sorry to the Phily fan, but I tihnk the Pens are going to be too much for the Flyers.

The finals are going to be tough to call. If Lidstrom and Chelios stay healthy and Datsyuk and Zetterberg get hot /stay hot, it could be tough for the Pens. That said, I wouldn't want to have to defend Crosby/Hossa/Malkin.

Oh yeah, I'm just kind of assuming Detroit tales Dallas, partly just because I'd rather see a ral Hockey city in the Finals.

Yeah, and the fact that Anaheim won was probably the worst thing to happen to hocky. Californians don't even care that their team won the Stanley Cup, for crying out loud! Whether or not Detroit or Philadelphia win it all, at least either city is worthy of properly celebrating the achievement.
