Disallow Private Messages To Other Plays In Same Game

Postby Gnome de Guerre on Thu May 01, 2008 1:59 am

It's been a long time, but now I'm back....
:ugeek:
Concise description:
  • It is against the rules to conduct secret strategic planning outside of the game window; although you can say anything you want in any given game's chat window (within reason), you are not allowed to discuss or make plans concerning a given game with other players involved in said game through private messages.
  • In order to prevent (sometimes unintentional) abuse, I suggest disabling messages sent to players participating in an active game in which you are involved.

Specifics:
  • You will not be able to send private messages to other players involved in the same game(s) as you are until said game(s) conclude, even if you are eliminated before the end.
  • You will be able to send private messages to any other players not involved in a current game in which you are a participant.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Any two or more players who seem to magically coordinate their activities without using the in-game comment box can fairly safely be labeled as multi-players (or they're using email or telephones for coordination, which is also against the rules).
  • Forcing players in the same game to communicate using the in-game chat window rather than private messages so that everyone involved can see (in the case of non-team games).

This seems like someone should have suggested it already.

Let me blow this out of the water immediately:

I, along with a very great number of players, often play standard games that include members of my clan, who are also teammates in other games. To be disallowed from PM'ing them would be ridiculous!

And a secondary thing - better players will seem to "magically co-ordinate" sometimes, because it is obvious to both parties that to do so is in their individual interests (it's called good play ;) )

Sorry, no. ... no, no, NO!

If you think someone cheats, just don't play with them. The vast majority of players are honest and friendly. Using such draconian measures to curb the very few who might abuse it will narrow this site incredibly.

I do pm folks occasionally about things that have nothing to do with the game. Sometimes I like to practice my language skills without having to explain everything I am saying to the whole group, sometimes I just like to chat about various issues without clogging the chat. Occasionally, I will even pm teammates about things that DO have to do with the game, because its easier than hassling with teammate only chat.

The bottom line ... if someone really wants to cheat, they will. Put them on your ignore list, report them.

You can coordinate outside of the game chat, however the alliance must first be announced in game chat.

1. I refuse to be treated like a criminal when I've done nothing wrong.

2. Even if I would be able to tolerate that, as PLAYER said above, any "good" cheaters can find other ways of communication in e-mail, AIM, Skype, etc.

Come on now Ricco. You know that you can either play games or organize tournaments but nobody can do both.

This would really suck for the Mafia game community here, as well.
