Looking for a good argument.

Postby Ditocoaf on Thu Apr 17, 2008 1:01 am

Before I start, I need to make something clear: I like to argue. It's fun, and intellectually stimulating (sometimes). Despite this, I only pick arguments with people I like and respect, because I care what they think. If I don't like or respect you, I ignore you, because I don't care what you think. This can lead to some of my good friends thinking I hate them, but I can usually patch it up afterwards.

But on to the substance:

I'm bored. I want to have a good argument with someone smart. Preferably we could both take some BS position on some topic we don't really care about; we could make up fake religions, take opposing views about the merits of Arbor day (the single most important issue facing the American public today), or something else equally challenging. By 'challenging,' I mean coming up with a compelling reason that Arbor day is a threat is tougher than relaying your recycled opinions about abortion or evolution.
Any takers?

Chimps that are now using spears will eventually make "Planet of the Apes" a reality?

hmm... I don't mean to be arrogant. I actually think quite a personality defect on my part that I like to argue with my friends.

I know, the shame... We must act quickly to suppress the apes by wiping them out via the force of our superior weaponry. Their spears stand no chance against our longbows and throwing stars. Failure to defeat the Chimp menace is a supposition that cannot even be imagined.

I will recommend a guy on this site by the name of MeDeFe to you. He will argue with you about the most pointless things imaginable. If he's not demanding that you prove that 1 + 1 = 2 then he will judge you about the correct way to congratulate someone else. Hours of fun. 8-)

Oh yes, I enjoy a good argument, the problem is that there are so few people that do the same, and you always get some dimwit that will misinterpret something and then feel incredibly smart while railing against a strawman.

Maybe it's time to revive the idea of a debate-clan.

You know, that's why you have Wiki, to look these simple questions up.
Here is the simple definition of Arbor Day

Arbor Day from Wiki wrote:Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees. Arbor Day originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska, United States but is also celebrated by several other countries. In Japan, a similarly-themed Greenery Day is celebrated.

Arbor day is the single greatest threat to our nation today. While most trees are docile, many are slowly spreading to take over our farmlands, our suburbs, and even our cities! If trees aren't wiped out, eventually they may cover our entire country! And then we get to Arbor day... somehow, Tree propaganda has gotten to some of our citizens, and, like communists, they SYMPATHIZE with the ENEMY! On Arbor day, it has somehow become okay to actually purposefully PLANT trees!

There is only one course of action: slash and burn.

I completely agree with you Ditocoaf, and there are others who spread the truth as well, in their own way.

No way; if it wasn't for Arbor Day, we would have had a nuclear holocaust in the Cold War! It's common knowledge that the only reason the USSR didn't nuke us during the Cuban Missile Crisis is because they were afraid of angering all the trees. They wouldn't have had to worry about destroying trees if it weren't for the good work done by tree huggers such as Julius Sterling Morton! In fact, I would call him our greatest American hero, even over the likes of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and John McCain.

you are completely correct. If Al-Qaeda controlled the trees, along WITH the weather, we would all be doomed. fortunately, they have been unable to master that technology.

Yep. Trees are our greatest ally in the Middle East in the War on Terror (and an ally against the war on territory -- but that's another story). See Ents v Saruman.

A pity most of the ME is desert and pretty much void of trees.
