well, my money is on there never being a British Empire again.

Indeed, I agree, thank goodness, after all, who would want one in this day and age...oh yes of course, less said the better I suppose, your occupation and interests kind of mark you out for your remark don't they. At least we did have one and held on to it for some time. Perhaps you could take a leaf out of our book and try to be self effacing, rather than self serving.

Re the Cheese rolling, I saw a couple of years back that H&S tried to have it banned...they got sent packing sharpish!!

Re the Grand national, well done Guiscard, nicely spotted, I was a tad concerned as they jumped the last, my hand hovered over the mouse ready to click the lay button on the winner, fortunately I desisted.

simma.

80% of the jokes i make on this site are self-deprecating. and 100% of them aren't even funny.

i actually think the cheesing thing is hilarious. i would mos def go watch the spectacle if i was a local.

i was just dishing out some good natured abuse comparable to the (yankees blah blah blah stupid pants) abuse coming from the Britons on this site.
have you ever seen an idealist with grey hairs on his head?
or successful men who keep in touch with unsuccessful friends?
you only think you did
i could have sworn i saw it too
but as it turns out it was just a clever ad for cigarettes.

Of course you were. Being something of a supporter of the USA (very outdated I know, and not hip at all) I always find it difficult when I see you chaps 'having a go', but then I am proud to call the USA a friend, unlike many. I would rather have them as a friend than just about every other country I have ever visited, and I have visited, and lived in, many. Regarding the good natured abuse, believe me, it is as nothing compared to what we deliver to ourselves.

If you were a local you would no doubt go and watch, wondering why these strangers from over t'hill wanted to do such a crazy thing, after all, with your six fingers you could easily snatch the rolling cheese as it went helter skelter down.

Back on topic, sad news about Mckelvey. Poor horse was injured in last years race, they got him back to health, only for him to unseat his rider (no problem there). Sadly Mckelvey then ran into a post and become too injured. Clearly, his fatal injury was nothing to do with him unseating his rider (he did not fall) or the tendon injury he previously suffered from.

(and if anyone catches the reference, i'll be impressed)

Time to be impressed by the "mad limey" - myself.
I can safely say that you got that line for "That's So Ravan". Why you were watching that drivel, is beyond me.
