Off Shore Islands

Postby Merlin_ca on Sun Mar 25, 2007 4:59 pm

Have you thought about including NZ's off shore Islands? I know there small, but they could provide a means of connecting the main islands, lessening the impact of the straightness of the map.

You could include them in groups. ie the chatam islands. as territories. or include another continant as groups of islands

Adding more territories would be nice. Offshore islands for example as stated before me. i like the idea and the font needs to be worked on a little. I like how the straights are a continent but i think the bonus should be 3 not 2. Take a look at my map (Runescape Map).

ok i dont know if thesse have been suggested dont fell like reading 5 paragraphs across 2 pages

1.straight should be worth 4 because you would need a shit load of armies to protact that
2.new font
3.weres that middle airplane to doesnt make sense to be in the water so it must be in wellington(i hope) but really not alot of people are smart enough to figure that out maybe an arrow or something this could free up your legend and you could make it bigger that way
4. make the straights names have arrows pointing to there correct spot(kinda hard to see not a big issue)
5.may want to make wanaka a bit bigger because those mountains jumble everything up
6.make the legend bigger
7.maybe spread the map out some

sorry if these have been posted several times like i said lots of pages to go through and i'm lazy right now  sorry if none of it helped

Hey,

I was majorly distracted doing other things since I started this and don't thin I'm going to continue it.

Just checked my hd and can't find the original image files either, so things are not going to proceed from my end.

Anyone else who wants to give it a go, go for it!!

New Zealand (ver 1.0)

Postby lord voldemort on Sun Mar 16, 2008 3:53 pm

Image

Number of territories at current = 43 though next version will have 42 as its a better number

Number of continents 6

Special Gameplay
Will be putting in airport travel. so quick movement from one side of map to other.
also mountain range down middle of south island
and then another small range in volcano country
*this is also why bonus structure might seem a lil out

Thoughts

to come...
-airports
-impassables
-art work for empty space
-territory names
-army circs
-anything else

This map has little appeal to me. In fact, it almost looks like the Japan map, even though it is of another country.

New Zealand Land Wars - Version 2.0 -NEW-

Postby Dai_atan on Mon Mar 17, 2008 5:33 am

thought id have a go not just at a new zealand map (which i havnt noticed around)
but also a historical map.
:)
heres a little map i put together to give a nice idea of how it would wind up looking :O
this is my first time making a map and obviously just the first draft, so id love feedback from anyone, as long as it relates to the subject matter haha
Version 2.0
Image
Version 2 basically gives a little better quality to the what was non existent graphics, :) still working on textures for the Wooden Panel for the Key, and going to amp up the quality of the Land territories themselves. :)
Must point out that for this version ive removed all text as I'm recruiting the help of a Typography student to help me
with the text :)
also as TaCktiX has led me to point out (A) current ships/boats are just placeholders
Version 1.1
Image
This version isnt better graphically at all, (infact its worse lol) it is merely an attempt to relate Balsiefen's idea of adding in more continents, though i think my interpretation is obvious in that i think it would be neat to have a few more minor bonuses :p
Version 1.0
Image
- 35 Territories
- 2-4 continents + minor bonuses
- predicting brutal gameplay :P

and give the territories their super 14 colors :o

Why is it called "land wars" when half the territories are ships? :D

I actually like this, especially as a first map. I think it could develop into a really interesting map later on. To start, I would find proper names for new zealand territs and give names to the ships. One good method to distinguish the ships a bit more would be to have a coloured highlight for the name of each ship (different colours for different types of ship)

Splitting up the land into a few more conts should also help, along with ships being able to attack each other.

I quite like it actually, nice and graphicly simple like portugal, colours are quite nice but boarders need a lot of redoing to get rid of those pixels.

Hard to comment on gameplay until territs & impassibles are done.

(you'll need some more graphical decoration as well (and a box for the bonuses, you cant see half of them)
