adding insult to injury

Postby whitestazn88 on Mon Mar 10, 2008 10:18 pm

this guy picked up north america within the first 3 rounds, and was able to hold it very well.

he's definitely gonna beat me, but instead of attacking my countries, he took a bunch of neutrals to get a bigger bonus.

is that a douchebag move?

kind of,
i couldn't tell what advantage he had originally, but if he didn't eliminate you ASAP, and drug it out for 3-5 rounds more than it should have been, then yes.

The guy may just be trying to be careful. I'm always weary of people saying: "Just beat me and end it" because often, with a set of bad rolls the game suddenly loses momentum. When I play I advance slowly but try to make it so that my opponents cannot possibly get lucky enough to come back, regardless of any of my rolls.

In a recent feudal game for instance I had to track over the Northern Plains full of enemy ones (with a 24 on Rhu) and had over 300 men in Great Kingdom... by the time I got halfway, my 300-and-something army was down to 198. After attacking Rhu and getting to Northern plains 3.... my original 300+ army was down to 122 and I got the point that things could be turned around pretty bad for me, so I played more conservative by not leaving 1s.

.. It's probably not the best move to start calling someone a cunt because they're playing the way they want to play.

Actually I'm with the victor here... sometimes taking a few neutrals to secure the game is a better move than killing the other off...

What does it matter that you've had to play an extra 3 turns?

so you're saying you have multiple accounts...? weird, and also, doesn't killing him off secure the game...? I could see being overly cautious in a FOW game, but seriously, finish the guy off if you can...

Sure, if you're absolutely certain you can. However, we've all had our bouts with insanely bad dice and I know that I've played end games a bit more plodding than I absolutely had to to ensure victory.

Says the player who has managed 11 wins only out of 25 in 1v1 games, a 22% hit rate overall, and (as of this moment) just 1 win against a higher rank in those 1v1 games, maybe your impatience gets the better of you.. :-k

To the original poster...why be so ugly in your use of english...your opponent might have been in awe of your rank and concerned that you would use some dastardly plot he had not seen up to now. You certainly made a friend that's for sure..if you had used that kind of language to me, I would have hit the brake pedal sharpish.

EDIT: I see the player gave you a negative for the game as well. So, let's review, you lost the game, you insulted him, you received a negative, you insulted him again in your response. You have not really built support here.

Maybe it's me, but where is the positive result for you in all this?
