Which I will now stop doing, lest I receive a forum ban, and out of respect for one or two people here.

I find myself enjoying "Ayo Technology" even though it features Mr. Cent. The attractiveness of this track certainly rests on the newest dynamic duo of hip-hop, Timbaland and Timberlake.

The beat is "off the heezy", in my opinion.

Thanks everyone for dealing with the troll. Drama over, now back to business.

To be fair, Timbaland is one of the few modern 'superstar' producers I rate. I mean, he's no J Dilla (RIP), but his beats are consistently interesting, well produced and they really hit the dancefloor hard. Sometimes it's easy to forget that one of the points of Hip-Hop music is to entertain and make people dance.

On the subject of J Dilla, anyone a fan? Did anyone give the Donuts album a listen? I know everyone who's anyone in Hip-Hop was giving it 'mad love' but I'm not sure I was ridiculously impressed. A touch of Kurt Cobain syndrome perhaps?

Dilla is dope! Yeah Donuts was great but I think the KC syndrome did inflate some peoples reviews of it. Not to take anything away from Dilla

I've been a fan of Timbaland since I first heard "Luv 2 Luv U" back in the 90's.

I like a lot of the work he did for Aaliyah RIP especially.

Here's an interesting slide show about some dispute over one of Timbaland's songs. I don't know what to think, I know sampling is an accepted part of hip-hop, but shouldn't some credit be given? Especially when it's so close to the original? http://timbalandtempest.ytmnd.com/

I hereby request that someone with access to 8 Diagrams upload it to http://www.senduit.com and share the link with those of us either too broke or too frightened to enter the local record shop.

Yeh, have seen that before. It is a bit of a blatant sample, but no more than hundreds of other quality producers. Probably just needed an acknowledgement.

I'm lazy. Plus I dislike leaving an electronic paper-less trail.

I hear that Utorrent and the 'Pirate Bay' can yoink a copy of 8D's in no time flat, leaving not even a ripple upon the placid face of the internet's waters.

But that's just what I've heard, y'know.

I think one of the best parts of 8 Diagrams is the last 30 seconds of "The Heart Gently Weeps". It's from a kung-fu movie called Invincible Pole Fighter or Eight Diagram Pole Fighter. It's my favorite kung-fu movie of all time with my favorite kung-fu actor of all time Gordon Liu(Johnny Mo from Kill Bill 1 and Pai Mei from Kill Bill 2). Great movie, so many great quotes.

and "Life Changes" reaffirms my belief that the use of a piano in a hip-hop beat is one of the most beautiful things ever. One of the reasons I'm such a big fan of DJ Premier/Gang Starr, he loves the piano.

Wolves seems to be the track that has grown on me the most.

for whatever reason, i skipped it a lot when i first got the album, but now i actively seek it out, and gave it 5 stars in my iTunes.

George Clinton played a gig at my friend's university in the US; backstage someone passed him a spliff, he took two drags and pocketed it. Funkadelic.

I think Funk-a-delic would have been more appropriate. The stress on the a increases the funkiness quotient.

a different Wolves, the one on Let's Get Free is one of the best intro tracks on an album.

is Let's Get Free the other version of 8 Diagrams? i remember reading last fall, right before the album came out, that they were going to release a second version, with different beats...

i guess i could look it up... but it'd be more fun if you just told me.

also, if anyone needs any Wu-Tang aside from 8 Diagrams, PM me.

I LOVE Let's Get Free. Still listen to it all the time. The beats and raps are awesome, they show variation from hard in your face to the peaceful self-reflecting rap, like on the track happiness. I don't agree with all their views on the cd because they have some very extreme ones, but it makes you think about issues.

Needless to say I was excited for Revolutionary But Gangsta, but when I finally heard it, I was extremely disappointed. The beats were ok with some good ones in there, same with their raps. For me one of the biggest disappointments was I felt they backtracked in their message. Their message in the music seemed to me to be more about just promoting violence and they started rapping about more mainstream stuff in songs also. In other words, they seemed to have floated towards the gangsta mindset and away from the freedom fighter inbetween albums. Their music lost a lot of it's intelligence, which I admire in music.

Reminisco, V.I. and I discussed Let's Get Free earlier in this thread, it's Dead Prez's first album, released in 2000. Some of their views are extreme, but it's intelligent as in they are arguing for something instead of just rapping about women and cars and drugs. Also their emceeing skills are awesome and the beats are good and range from all different types of music. I still listen to it all the time.
