I have to say Uncontrolled Substance is my #1, but that's because Inspectah Deck has always been my favorite. I think if I were completely objective Liquid Swords would be #1, it's just so good. The use of all the Shogun Assassin/Lone Wolf and Cub quotes from the movies are awesome too cause I love the movies.

Tical, Ironman, and Return to the 36th Chamber are probably the others I listen to most often.

When I was at college I made a logo for Inspectah Deck for a logo design class, I'll upload it when I get some extra time. I was also in a Digital Video class where my partner and I used the opening of Liquid Swords, the kid talking, as an opening to one of our videos. It set the premise of the story, then the rest of the video had no dialogue but we used the Gang Starr songs JFK 2 LAX, You Know my Steez, and Betrayal to carry the emotion of what was happening, I'll see if theres a way I can get it online.

Yeh the intro to Liquid Swords is great. 'He wasn't scared of the Shogun but the Shogun was scared of him... Maybe that was the problem...'

Have you seen the movies? There are 5 Lone Wolf and Cub movies based on the graphic novels. Shogun Assassin is what was released in America, it was a edited combination of Lone Wolf and Cub 1 & 2. They are great if you love the 70's-80's kung-fu/samurai movie era

I'm not overly into martial arts movies, but I've got Shogun Assassain (actually found it in the changing rooms at work, which was a bonus). Must give it a watch again (although I have a ridiculous catalogue of movies I've not seen to plough through).

Good stuff. It's a great album. 'Rap gets jealous' really is a joyous thing. Best when driving too fast down the M1.

Throwing back a few pages... really the whole album is, and I'm now spreading the love to all my friends...

Good stuff. Can't wait for more output from the man. An interesting story all round. Grew up in Mogadishu ('where the lamp vomits ghosts') and his father moved to New York to work as a taxi driver to send back money, but as well as money he sent back Hip-Hop albums for his young son.

What a touching, sweet story...why, one could almost imagine a certain old friend of ours having it bring a tear to his eye...

Hey, honky is, and should be, a term reserved for myself. I do, after all, have the accent.

Pathetic. Take it to flame wars rather than trolling perfectly good threads.

Anyway, getting the thread back onto a hip-hop tip again...

One of the albums I've had on rotation recently, and one of the best I've heard in a while, is Sky City by Son of Ran. He gave it away free, so here's the (perfectly legal) download link:

Surprisingly fresh beats, conscious rhymes... Not as overtly political as some, but still a solid debut. Looking out for a lot more in the future.

No but I mean, you got to love the guy. A youtube video of Family Guy (which was funny, I'm sorry if you man-worship 50 cent (if that is his real name)) counts as a flame. I mean, what next, I'm insulting his religion or something and get another forum ban?

Nappy, if you were paying attention to the thread instead of just blindly trolling, you'd probably notice we are talking about mostly underground, independent, true hip-hop and not the commercialized redundant 50 cent style of hip-hop. I'm taking a leap of faith here, but I'm assuming that none of us that are posting frequently in this thread like 50 cent at all, so no one cares.

Seconded.

I enjoy reading your political postings, Nap, but you are obviously out of your element in this thread. Please be quiet.

Whatever happened to Dead Prez? Didn't they have an album drop a year or so ago?

Well chaps, you've inspired me to do two things:
1. Fire up the old torrenting software to help me relive my wu-tang filled 'youth'.
2. Call Nappy an attention-starved trolling cunt.

I LOVE Let's Get Free. Still listen to it all the time. The beats and raps are awesome, they show variation from hard in your face to the peaceful self-reflecting rap, like on the track happiness. I don't agree with all their views on the cd because they have some very extreme ones, but it makes you think about issues.

Needless to say I was excited for Revolutionary But Gangsta, but when I finally heard it, I was extremely disappointed. The beats were ok with some good ones in there, same with their raps. For me one of the biggest disappointments was I felt they backtracked in their message. Their message in the music seemed to me to be more about just promoting violence and they started rapping about more mainstream stuff in songs also. In other words, they seemed to have floated towards the gangsta mindset and away from the freedom fighter inbetween albums. Their music lost a lot of it's intelligence, which I admire in music.

Ofcourse the fact that he never said you were flaming is ignored in favor of more trolling.

But I'm going to break it down for you here:

1.) That family guy clip is ridiculously old. Everybody has seen it. Everybody thought it was funny untill watching it 80 times.
2.) Posting funny videos does not make you or your posts funny.
3.) Neither is your Ali G imitation funny.
4.) Making fun of 50 Cent is way too easy, yet another reason why your posts aren't funny.
5.) You're trolling, trolling is not allowed. It's also hated when it isn't done by a good troll, like DM.
6.) ???
7.) Profit!

I only have a handful of songs from RbG on my playlist because they did still have some good songs.

Walk like a Warrior
I have a dream too
D.O.W.N.
Radio Freq
50 in the clip

You know what, I just checked the internets because I knew RbG came out way more than a year ago and I figured you weren't that far off. Sure enough they have an album from 2006, shows you how much they dropped off my radar after RbG. I'm gonna have to check that new one out now! haha

Actually Guiscard does quite clearly say I ought to take it to "flame wars", but that's beside the point.

Now look here snorri, I'm not trying to claim I know anything much about your hip-hop or anything, I thought you fellows all loved 50-cent. You don't, fine. However, most importantly, my quarrel here is only with Guiscard.

I appreciate now, something I hadn't realised earlier, you're very sensitive about anyone trying to demean hip-hop or suggest you may have an affiliation with this 50 cent, and you (snorri) also spend a lot too long on the interwebs.

Mmuch as I personally detest it, for your sake and that of some of the others on this thread whom I've most unfortunatley touched a nerve with, I'll leave hip-hop alone in this thread at the very least.

Now, my 'Ali G' style dialogue was mainly intended to satirize our national historian, and again, not so much hip-hop. You'll no doubt forgive me if I don't take your judgement as indicative of what is and isn't comedic. That said, I do understand you and Dancing Retard do occasionally have the spasmodic urge to squeal with girlish delight that someone is teh trollzor!!1!1!, so you needn't worry, I won't take your comments personally either..

That's snorrarse and jizztard dealt with, so gentlemen, I'll leave you to it.

Good day to you all.

You are addressing snorri, but I will respond to this also.

You haven't touched a nerve with us(or me at least) because of making fun of 50 cent or hip-hop. It's because you are blatantly trolling a thread where a group of us were happily discussing and sharing music that we like. You came in here only to take a jab at Guiscard, which you admit to in your above post. Then you began to just post stupid posts about family guy and what not. This disrupts our convo and is just annoying. It's trolling and that's what we are annoyed with, not that you don't like hip-hop, I could care less.

You retard, he just said "take it to flame wars" because you can live out your silly little fantasies there and won't bother anyone here.

News flash: Making fun of things is only funny if you actually know anything about those things.
