Did you read the game chat?

Yes if the site is down the game should be reset. always.detlef wrote:I think you're taking this all a bit too seriously.KoE_Sirius wrote:My post doesnt say whos fault it is...free points shouldnt be awarded to anyone.
What about when someone misses a turn because the site is down? What if that person is holding 5 cards and is down to just a few armies and misses his turn allowing the guy right behind him in line to sweep him up, cash and proceed to run the table? Do we take that guys points away as well?
It's freaking rankings points in a game that we play to forget about more important things.
jimboston wrote:Right... but you make the wise-ass comment of "well played".
Then... based on the fact that you are upset about the guy's
in-game chat... it suggests that you are kinda upset with the guy.
However, every time I've logged in and found the site down, they've made a point of saying, "Some people will miss their turns and we're sorry about that"KoE_Sirius wrote:Yes if the site is down the game should be reset. always.detlef wrote:I think you're taking this all a bit too seriously.KoE_Sirius wrote:My post doesnt say whos fault it is...free points shouldnt be awarded to anyone.

I read that as, "Sorry, it's a game, tough luck if this determines the outcome". So again, how should this be resolved. What if the guy who ends up winning the game in the scenario I showed was in a great position despite all this? Are you implying that he should lose the points he earned because the site being down helped him clinch?
I refer to the main point I'm trying to make. That is, chill the hell out. It's a freaking game. If you are as serious about this game as you are leading on, I assume you're playing 30+ games per month which means, in the big picture, this will be no more important than so many games where the dice betrayed you in the endgame and you lost out on 100+ pts that really should have been yours. Again, BFD.

When I logged in the site didn't say it was going to closed. It just shut down all of a sudden with no warning.
Not losing those points in the game is as important to me as it is for you to win this arguement.
Dice come and go.A good player can get round them.Closure of the site is impossible to get round.I am chilled btw.
Well, I highly doubt that or you wouldn't have started a thread because I could really give a rat's ass if I "win this argument".KoE_Sirius wrote:detlef wrote:However, every time I've logged in and found the site down, they've made a point of saying, "Some people will miss their turns and we're sorry about that"KoE_Sirius wrote:Yes if the site is down the game should be reset. always.detlef wrote:I think you're taking this all a bit too seriously.KoE_Sirius wrote:My post doesnt say whos fault it is...free points shouldnt be awarded to anyone.

However, in all fairness, I do think you are missing my point. You do understand the disclaimer I speak of, right? That is, when you log and the site basically apologizes for the fact that you may be missing your turn due to the site being down. When that person signed up for that game, they also had no idea that they would get the short end of that stick. When they didn't have time to make their turn but knew that they'd have have a window of opportunity to do so before their time was up, they had no idea that the site would be down during that moment. So, assuming that downtime caused their game to end, they were just as powerless as you.
Like others, I don't see why this merits you complaining to the masses. And, FWIW, since "the masses" have either not bothered to reply or done so by saying, "get over it", I'm afraid this seems to be a rather unanimous opinion.
As for "good players getting around bad dice" I have yet to play against a player who can overcome the dice completely failing them in a take-out run of an escalation game that leaves their target an easy mark for the next guy in line to eliminate and ultimately run the table. So, like the site failing, this is something "impossible to get around" unless you're implying not initiating such an elimination run unless your odds of success are 100% (which, of course, is never).
Now, I admit this may look like I actually care about "winning this argument". However, I assure you it has much more to do with my rather bad habit of not being able to leave not well enough alone.
What makes you think that I think the outcome of games should be affected by the site being down. My point is simply that there is a precedent for CC not going back and fixing any games affected by these situations (likely because it would a total freaking hassle and it's much easier for everyone just to remember that it's only a game).jimboston wrote:Also detlef...
I think you are missing the point.
Although I disagree about it being that one user's fault.
I do agree with the premise that game outcome should nto be affected by a site being down. They could reset games to the point in time where the hiccup occurred. People may have to re-take moves... and in a FOW game there might be some knowledge that you might not "see"... but it would be most fair.
Just because people are bitching about the site being slow or whatnot... doesn't mean they are losing sleep or getting upset over it.
At the same time... the site having issues does affect one's enjoyment of the "game".

Now, FWIW, I am way more in favor of having this particular game swept from the records since it doesn't appear to have really been played at all. That said, the OP (and it seems you) have since remarked that every game adversely affected by the site being down should be fixed and that just seems silly.
Mind you, I agree that, assuming it isn't hard to do, the game clock should be frozen in these situations.

One... I don't know what FWIW means.
Two... I think that my point was unclear there... I was mostly trying to say that just because people here complain a bit... doesn't mean that they are losing sleep over a lost game, or beating the wife because CC is down and they have nothing better the do. (Joke here guys... bad joke yes, but still a joke.)
I do think that CC should do whatever is "reasonable" to "repair" points lost and lost games that are obviously affected by the site having issues. The term "reasonable" is of course subjective. If you asked me would I rather CC/Lack spend time, money, and effort to restore points.... OR would I rather those resources be put towards repairing or upgrading the systems or code so that this issues are minimal going forward. I would obviously prefer for the ongoing fix... and let history be history.
The bottom line though... is that it is a game... and it's meant to be fun... but part of the fun for some is winning. No matter who is talking though... if your play is interrupted by a system being down. It's LESS fun. I'm sure we all have to agree on that. Yes?
