Ketchup flavoured chips/crisps

Postby browng-08 on Tue Feb 26, 2008 11:59 pm

I know that ketchup chips are a Canadian invention, and I've heard they're not sold in the US, but I've been wondering, "Are Ketchup-flavoured Potato Chips really a Canada-only experience?" Hence the poll. After answering the poll, post whether or not you like Ketchup chips, if you've ever had them.

You Canadians aren't the only ones who have tomato sauce flavoured chips. Here in NZ about 5 years ago the company bluebird introduced tomato sauce flavoured chips. They weren't very nice I thought :sick: . Have those been recently released in Canada :?:

In Louisiana they have "Cajun Tomato!" flavored potato chips.

Similar, no?

Don't believe we have ketchup flavored chips, at least not that I've seen.

For quite a while, actually! As long as I can remember, ketchup chips have been my second favourite (yum, salt-n-vinager!), so at the very least, we're looking at 15-20 years. (Unless someone can prove me wrong with an actual date. They are a Canadian invention, I was just curious if they've ever spread beyond our borders.

Not unless it's actually ketchup. I've heard of a lot of cajun-type chips, but nowhere near the same! You have to try them. Yummy!

Yeah, bluebird has ketchup chips here too. I hate them. I do love salt-n-vinegar though.

My favourite is The Works. It is made by ETA. It has 3 flavours in the one packet. Sour Cream and Chives, Smoky Bacon and Cheddar.

Well, after a quick visit to wikipedia, I learned that countries like the UK and South Africa do, in fact have ketchup flavours. However, I remain firm in my assertion that it originated in Canada. Now, I'm gonna go have a bag right now! :D

We used to have them in South Dakota, they were Lay's brand Ketchup flavored Potato Chips, they were my favorite, but they don't have them around anymore. I don't know why? Now I just by a small bag of plain Lay's and put some Ketchup with some Tabasco Sauce in 'em, shake the bag up good and eat! Really good! Are you sure Canadians invented Ketchup chips? Old Dutch is a Minnesota company.

Dude! Next time put some Tabasco sauce in with the ketchup! It is sooo good! (unless you don't like spicy stuff, but Tabasco is really not that hot, I can pretty much drink that stuff straight from the bottle)

Tried them, didn't like them. The crab-bbq sauce flavoured chips were good though.

But not as tasty as these boys:

But by far the best flavoured Wheat Crunchies are the Crispy Bacon ones;

They are delish! Mmmmm, all this talk is making me hungry now!

I can only agree with Trip's analysis. Although my potato-based snack of choice will always be ready saletd hula hoops.

But the pain pleasure thing is what makes them so great - and being able to slough off all the skin with your tongue afterwards!
