Yeah, he's pretty anti-religious, and I definitely don't like his take on it. The idea that religion prevents people from thinking isn't true. It can be in some cases, but it's a very unfair generalization. I do agree with his views on separation of church and state, however.

There are many intelligent scholars, scientists, politicians, etc that are also religious.
I do however agree that it does prevent logical thought in a lot of people, people that instead of assessing a situation with their own logic, thoughts, feelings will use what someone else has written or told them. When you make a statement that you thought over, reasoned out, and came up with yourself, when someone attacks it or questions it, you have to answer for it, you are responsible for upholding it. If you make a statement based on someone else or a book then you can just deflect the attack, so if someone questions you you can be like "hey, it's not me, the book says so". I think that is a safety net that people find easy to use instead of having to take responsibility for their own thoughts.
I agree here, but the same can be said for basically anything. People tend to dogmatically accept anything written down, be it history, religion, or Wikipedia.
