We didn't tell them HOW to do it. All we told them was that WE can do it. No secrets there since we have been able to since 1985. Just a little reminder in case they forgot. That's how the peace is kept.

If it was poisonous fuel why put it up in the sky anyway? They only launched it a little over a year ago.

Okay let's assume for one moment you are right. What are they lying about?

That the satellite failed shortly after launch? The whole world saw that.

That it contains fuel that it was supposed to use over the course of its lifetime? The whole world knew that.

That it is the size of a bus? The whole world knew that.

That the fuel has since frozen because of the power failure? The whole world learned that would happen during Apollo 13.

That the frozen fuel would remain largely intact during reentry? Scientists around the world agree.

So what is left to lie about?

I suppose you could claim that the whole thing was set up to be a weapons test from the very beginning. But if that was true, don't you think we wouldn't have spent a few billion dollars less on the proposed target? Duh.

So that leaves us with a dead satellite circling the planet at high speed carrying a poisonous payload that could kill a lot of people if it lands at the wrong place.

Would you rather we just let it go and hope for the best. Perhaps it lands in Canada and kills a bunch of your citizens, then what would you say?

Of course we're going to take it out if we can. And here's a clue . . . shhhh . . . don't tell anyone . . . it will require us to use a weapon system to do so . . . SURPRISE!!!!! Oh wait . . . the whole world knows that too. Darn. No surprise.

Hmmm . . . maybe we're lying about the color of the missle? YAH THAT"S IT!!! Quick get the Interior Designers Union up in arms!!! Those damn lying Americans!!!

Whatever dude. Get real.

Haha, oh the naivete of people. It amazes me that the U.S. government thought that people would really buy that story, but then again...

Anyway, the real reason that the U.S. shot down that satellite was because certain parts that they would rather remain top secret could have potentially fallen into the wrong hands, like the Russians or Chinese. They didn't do it just to show off that they could or that the fuel was going to be hazardous to about two football fields worth of land, because one, it'd be much too expensive for the first, and two, the fuel would burn up on reentry into the atmosphere and even if there were some that reached the earth, it would be much less expensive to just payoff anybody that was hurt from it with a few million dollars than the several billion it took to launch that missile.

Everyone knows that too! I left it unsaid because I thought it was pretty much self-explanatory.

But it didn't cost billions to launch that missle - I'm guessing 100 million tops because you can only count the modifications they made to the missle against it. Everything else they used was already in place.

Eh, I'm not sure how much it was. Just put that amount down for dramatic effect. The point is that it'd just be a lot cheaper to give a bunch of people settlements for poisoning than for launching the missile.

Nah. That fuel tank was strong enough to take a beating. Something that size (5,000 pounds) frozen rock solid would have very likely survived reentry. Call me naive, but I'll believe the scientists this time.

I'm not saying that the fuel tank wouldn't survive, but that the heat of reentry would heat up the fuel inside and subsequently ignite it. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno, but that seems the most logical to me.

I heard somewhere that it needs to be mixed with something else to actually ignite. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, NASA has always used two-part fuels.

I'm inclined to believe the US did it as a deterrant. In all likelyhood, something the size of a bus will completely burn up. Therefore it requires no missile. However, it was a convenient excuse to show the Chinese who's boss...
