As for the "greatness" of iPods, they play mp3s and stuff. GREAT! That's just exactly what any other mp3-player does as well. You pay for the brand and not for the content, and deep down you know it.

there bigger, harder to break, and the touck is amazing. What's not to like?

I broke a nano with 3 fingers ok?

the_fatty, I think you just got slightly pwned. "harder to break" Are you a professional destroyer of mp3-players or something? I recall my first mp3-player lasted 5 or 6 years or something. After that it wouldn't switch on correctly.

yea, and iPods can last just as long

For 5 times the price of a normal mp3-player or more, good deal!

Ok, so iPod rundown here:

1. hold more songs
2. everyone know about them
3. the touch has internet!!!
umm...iPod = betterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

also, MFD and RBN, notice how many more people voted for an actual iPod (iSuggs counts  ) than they voted for GFY, SOMIKO!!!, or Makin love to me ( ).

1. We had that in the other thread, do you actually need 680 hours of music on your mp3-player?
2. And your point is? That they've been marketed until everyone wants one so the price can be driven up yet a little more?
3. oohh, internets! Where do you live that you need an iPod of all things technological to get on the internet? And at what great speed, I'm sure you could even play WoW on it, for which you're also required to pay obscene amounts of money.

1. you dont need all of those songs at once, but im sure you like to listen to any of them
2. No, my point is that MP3's cant advertise because they know iPOds are better.
3. You dont pay anything for the internet on the itouch (exept the normal fees for using internet). and this is usful when you DONT HAVE A COMP!

So you're saying that mp3 companies don't have commercials because they've succombed to the greatness of the ipod? Actually zune has plenty of commercials. They just don't reach you because you just happen to only care about the ipod.

And i'm sure the huge 150 page bills include some charge for it.

It's just about not being ignorant.

the Ipod sucks, Itunes is the bane of the musical worlds existence, The_fatty is an idiot with a horrible delusion.

I, personally, have an Iriver.

This thing is like an Ipod, but actually GOOD.

First off, it holds music as files, and plays them as such. The main screen is a directory file, much like if you clicked on the "my computer' Button on a windows computer. You go from the parent directory to more sub-directories with the joystick, and the Iriver recognizes and can play a variety of different music-file formats.
This means I can just click and Drag an mp3 from my desktop monitor to the Iriver and I can listen to it. None of this pussy-footing around through Itunes, encrypting your music before its compatible with the Ipod.

This also means that the Iriver can be used as sort of an incredibly large USB key. You can just drag and drop files onto the Iriver, and while it won't be able to recognize what those files can do, you can store them and move them from computer to computer. For instance, I transfered all of Half-life from my school's computer to my home computer over my Iriver, Something which the Ipod of the time (the 3rd generation Ipod) would have been woefully unprepared to do easily.

There is also the size vs. price point. My Iriver holds 20gigs of space, which is more than enough for all of my music. It cost 250$, which was really cheap in 2003, which is the year I got it in. The Ipods which were around at that time, cost considerably more.

Finally, there is the durability of the Iriver. The_fatty is just flat out wrong when he says Ipods will stand the test of time. Its been well proven that the Ipod was made so that eventually it will break and the user will have to buy another one. My Iriver, on the other hand, has stood the test of time. I bought my Iriver at the beginning of 8th grade, and I'm a senior in highschool now, and its still going strong. Not only that, but I have treated it so badly during this time. I have gotten into a huge ski crash while having it in my pocket, I have Dropped it on the ground at least 20 times, I've had it fall out of my pocket when I was biking, I've accidently kicked it, stepped on it, fallen on it, and one time I even dropped it into the toilet, and it just won't give up.

Finally, there is the matter of the battery life. Ipods from back in 2003 could only stay alive for 10 hours, but my Iriver could play music for 20 hours nonstop on 1 battery charge. Of course, now its more like 12 hours because i've had it for so long, but that in itself is still a remarkable achievement.

I would love to see an Ipod from 2003 which has put up with as much shit as i've put my Iriver through and still be alive and functioning. It isn't possible, of course, because Ipods are just cheap, crappy, rip-offs that will break within months of you getting it.

however, the ipod's parachute game is unbearably addicting...

i have an iPod, but seldom use it as i did my walkman back in the day, or discman.

portable music can be a problem, especially in a city. in fact, those of you who do have iPods and wear them walking around, you should get different headphones. the stick up artists love them -- cause those signature white ear buds tell them you've A) got an iPod, which fetches at least 100 bucks on the street, and B) you give them a clew, leading them right to where your iPod is kept on your person.

further complicating the situation, most people keep iPods (or mp3 players in general) in any easy to reach place on their person. an outside jacket pocket, rather than tucked under a couple layers, par example.

i also don't like them, because i'm less aware of my surroundings with music in my ears. that's the easiest target to mug, cause they can't hear the attacker coming. i've been mugged enough times to know better.

so i use it in the car, and for travel. it's good in that cradle with the speakers. mostly i listen to the iTunes on my laptop, if i'm traveling on a train or sometimes on a plane.

it's great technology, just be smart how you use it.

oh, and one more thing about maddox... i got that t-shirt, the civil disobedience one... hilarious. but so many people will misinterpret the joke if you wear it in mixed company.

(and for the record, clew is how the word that became "clue" in modern parlance was originally written. it specifically referred to the piece of string Theseus followed to slay the Minotaur.)

Apple does. literally. if only people spent the time to actually analyze everything, then they would realize that ipods are overpriced pieces of junk. they can only be used with iTunes, no extra features such as radio, recording, expandability, customability, etc, etc, etc, etc,
