Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver, 2001.

Citizen Kane had possibly the best soundtrack of its time, Taxi Driver because it featured extensive use of the character's psychology, and 2001 because at the time nothing of the sort had ever been made.

Reservoir Dogs/Pulp Fiction. I put them together since they are both by Tarantino and have similar influences on movies that I will bring up.

Tarantino's great dialogue(which in the past 20 years dialogue in movies has all but died out because people need explosions and special effects to keep their short attention spans amused) scenes have been a huge influence on writers/filmakers after him. Another aspect is the jumping around in the timeline. Both movies have past present and future all coming in at different times which creates a dynamic story.

star wars and matrix because they revolutionized the special effects. Matrix wasn't that good in my opinion but it did have special effects.

I think Lord of the rings too it's just it's too recent too see too many changes but the fact that we've got fantasy movies coming in very consistently is not a coincedence that LoTR was a huge sucess.

the first feature length movie was something called cupid angling in 1918 i think but apparently short films were made as far back as 1902 where colour was hand painted onto single frames

Do you mean most influential on the art and industry of film-making, or influential on society and culture in general? Because the lists would not necessarily include the same films.

Phantom of the Opera takes that one for me. First, and ONLY movie I have EVER fallen asleep to. Actually, I think half the audience was asleep, and the other half was at least annoyed with it.

my vote goes to Pirates.

no, not the one with johnny depp.

yes, its a porn.

but its definitely very influential. it changed the way directors filmed. rather than having randomly placed pornographic scenes, it included a decent plot that was very similar to the storyline in Pirates of the Caribbean. the fact that the production cost was almost 10x greater than any other porn proves that it was more visually pristine

I fell asleep during Star Wars: Episode 1. When I woke up I was shocked. I never fall asleep in movies. But it was just so boring!

I'll go with Raiders of the Lost Ark and any of the original 3 Star Wars movie.

Raiders of the Lost Ark because there are so many references to different schenes in that movie that have had multiple versions of on different shows.

And Star Wars because of both the effect it had on the Special effects industry and some of the most familiar movie lines such as "Luke I am your father." "The force is strong in this one." and "May the Force be with you."
