Even if there is an attraction between people with blue eyes, it's just because their entire family has blue eyes. As you said, only blue+blue=blue. So the people they're closest too have blue eyes and it comforts them. There, obvious answer minus the money they must have spent polling people.

both my parents have brown eyes, and i have blue eyes. none of my 2 brothers have blue eyes. my son has blue eyes, and his mother has brown eyes. we are the only 2 people in the extended family on BOTH SIDES with blue eyes. go figure...

I recently learned that every human has blue eyes when he or she is born, they only change colour when other pigmentation gets in, it can get out again e.g. if the eye is being operated on.
I was told this by a person who has differently coloured eyes, and the blue one had been operated on, so I guess she knew what she was talking about.

umm, no i think that's wrong, but it's just a gut feeling...the blue eye mutation only happened 6,000 - 10,000 years ago...before then nobody had blue eyes, everyone had brown so how to get from there to everybody being born with blue eyes doesn't seem possible to me

It is recessive. I guess his nan and grandad are both hetero-zygote for their eye-colour. They both have a gene for blue and a gene for brown eyes, and brown is dominant so their eyes are brown, but when they make a baby it can either be homozygote for blue, heterozygote for both, or homozygote for brown.

I will third, fourth, whatever-the-number the blue-eyed guy, brown-eyed girl ratio. I don't really have a preference, though I know enough about genetics to find other ways of determining relatedness. This thread was interesting, to say the least.

I also add to the hooray for redheads ratio. I've never dated one (it's always brown-eyed brunettes for me, it seems) but they are twenty different kinds of fun to look at.
