welcome new players...

Postby flexmaster33 on Fri Jan 11, 2008 1:09 am

Well, unfortunately we seem to have hit our biggest dropout of the season, but have replaced all four coaches. Let's welcome the new players

NEW PLAYERS: got tonkaed is taking over coaching duties at Georgetown; Natewolfman will take over at Villanova, C.A.B. takes over at Illinois State and brandoncfi is finishing the season for San Diego State.

Also, please remember with the bracketology and everything, that doesn't account for the conference tourney automatic bids...so even if you're on the bottom of the standings now, you could make the March Madness tourney with a run in your league playoffs...and of course we will have the NIT tourney as well, so no reason to give up on the season.

I had a game where I was waiting for Illinois State to join and I noticed that it disappeared - is that automatic or did you can the games that he was backed up on?

new games and players are ready

Postby flexmaster33 on Fri Jan 11, 2008 8:00 pm

I took down games that had settings for the previous coach...all games have been replaced now and pms sent to those affected.

So, now all the games should be out there ready to be joined, and we should be up to speed through Games 24.

thanks for being patient with that...replacing four coaches in one week is somewhat time-consuming. 8)

March Madness tourney

Postby flexmaster33 on Sat Jan 12, 2008 2:58 am

Hello, everyone...just wanted to alert everyone to a vote I'm taking to see if there is interest in slightly changing the format for the March Madness tourney.

Currently, it would be 1 vs. 1 showdowns like we've done all season on a neutral map (Classic). Winner advances...loser is eliminated.

It has been proposed by several people to make the tournament a best 2-of-3 format with the winner advancing. So my proposal is to go 2 out of 3...Game 1 on the higher seed's homecourt, Game 2 on the underdog's court and Game 3 (if necessary) on Classic.

The concern is that with just a one-game showdown a bad drop could decide a player's tourney fate...with 2-of-3 that takes out some of that risk.

Anyway, the vote is up on the original post in this thread. If it's close, I'll just keep it as planned...but if a wide majority want change we'll go best-of-3.

The NIT tourney will stay with a one-game elimination on Classic.

I voted for one game as classic is a big enough map where a "bad" drop doesn't really happen all that often and in real life the saying goes "it happens".

IRL, it's one game. In Risk, it should be one game!

I'd be in favor of the best of 3 for the final, though.

i really think that march madness should be single elimination, unless we think that home maps are too big of an advantage. part of the REAL march madness is that people can come out of nowhere to win! going to 2 out of 3 might mean that the better player wins, but if that's what the NCAA did, we wouldn't have the crazy years of gonzaga or georgia tech or southern illinois or whoever surprising everyone.

single elimination!! :)

Having 2 out of 3 reduces the luck part of the game and will have the best player winning most of the time. I'd much rather win because of skill, than have someone win because of a good drop.
