If you would have stayed in the Jesus Freaks forum, I posted that last year in Jay's "Ron Paul Challenge" thread. It's nice that this is finally getting more attention.

By the way, I'm watching the Republican debate tonight and Ron Paul basically asked his supporters that if they really care about his candidacy then they will stop espousing their 9/11 conspiracy views.

I think all this racism dirt is straight bullshit.

Its been proven that some of the things signed under his name were forged signatures.

His whole message is civil liberty.

If he was racist or anything he would do like the rest and make no mention of gays, and blacks other than around gays and blacks.

He supports freedom for people. Not freedom for a group.

This is no different from any other political dirt that someone drew up and put the politicians on it.
Pointless and has no substance.

EDIT: Kind of ironic that a racist is going to have a big fundraising day on MLK's b-day.

You what's bullshit? First he says that was taken out of context then he says it was someone else and he didn't even know about it. Now that's straight bullshit

I guess its also bullshit that he has the most African american votes.
I also find it bullshit that this has been circulating in his own district for 10 years and they still elect him.

But please dont give the bullshit reply its Texas of course they will vote for a racist.

Ahh a statement

“The quotations in The New Republic article are not mine and do not represent what I believe or have ever believed. I have never uttered such words and denounce such small-minded thoughts.

“In fact, I have always agreed with Martin Luther King, Jr. that we should only be concerned with the content of a person's character, not the color of their skin. As I stated on the floor of the U.S. House on April 20, 1999: ‘I rise in great respect for the courage and high ideals of Rosa Parks who stood steadfastly for the rights of individuals against unjust laws and oppressive governmental policies.’

“This story is old news and has been rehashed for over a decade. It's once again being resurrected for obvious political reasons on the day of the New Hampshire primary.

“When I was out of Congress and practicing medicine full-time, a newsletter was published under my name that I did not edit. Several writers contributed to the product. For over a decade, I have publicly taken moral responsibility for not paying closer attention to what went out under my name.”

The Freedom Report’s online archives only go back to 1999, but I was curious to see older editions of Paul’s newsletters, in part because of a controversy dating to 1996, when Charles “Lefty” Morris, a Democrat running against Paul for a House seat, released excerpts stating that “opinion polls consistently show only about 5% of blacks have sensible political opinions,” that “if you have ever been robbed by a black teen-aged male, you know how unbelievably fleet-footed they can be,” and that black representative Barbara Jordan is “the archetypical half-educated victimologist” whose “race and sex protect her from criticism.” At the time, Paul’s campaign said that Morris had quoted the newsletter out of context. Later, in 2001, Paul would claim that someone else had written the controversial passages. (Few of the newsletters contain actual bylines.) Caldwell, writing in the Times Magazine last year, said he found Paul’s explanation believable, “since the style diverges widely from his own.”

Saw the debate too, I think he's doing well.

But yeah, jay... the conspiracy theories are really getting old and they're certainly not helping Paul win.

On this particular topic, I believe that it's been established that he didn't write the newsletters. The fact is that he has NEVER voted for or voiced support of such things in legislation or just on his platform in general.

I take the rise of this story as heartening, though, it means his opponents are finally recognizing him as a threat. Like luns said, this information has been available and out there for some time now, but only now after a few moderately successful primaries is it getting put on national TV.

Well, going under the assumption that Ron Paul is not a racist, and that he did not write those articles, he certainly made a bad choice while doing his campaign and accepting donations from a white supremest group. He KNEW those articles were out there written under his name, he KNEW that they had been used against him in the past, and he must have known that somebody would drag them up near the election. On their own, they will each make him look like a racist. Together... Personally, I wouldn't want somebody running my country who makes such silly misjudgements and oversights. Racist or not.

Such a candidate doesn't exist. I could go over the silly misjudgments and oversights in pretty much any candidate's campaign.

I doubt any of them are as stupid as accepting donations from white supremests though.

How about Huckabee signing a declaration stating that women should be subservient to men?

But yeah, both are pretty dumb.

Lol, more republican bigotry at the Huckabee thing. People try and throw the closet over these people's real beliefs via usage of propaganda. The fact is that these are these candidates real thoughts and beliefs and they are clearly not right the choice to lead the United States. You guys have already had to put up with a right-wing gun-toting buffooon for the last seven years. Any right-minded politician would never ever accept donations from a white supremacist group, purely through a sense of moral duty and I think this illustrates that Ron Paul cares more about money than about civil rights and making the USA a better place by ridding people of their natural racist assumptions. Seeing a politician accept money from white supremacists just sends off exactly the wrong message

That didn't rebute anything about him being a racist...What, because a black guy is supporting him?

Also, I'm sick of hearing about him, he talked a lot of shit (just like all presidential candidates) he said a lot of buzz and flash words 'Liberty' 'Justice' 'The American Way'

YAAAAAAy WE LOVE YOU RON

you know, jay. House mortgages are going to be the least of your problems once we get to the stage we won't be able to even build new houses because we've used so much of the planets resources that the planet dies. No economic policy is going to save shit. Get your heads out of the sand, fix the natural planet while we still have a slim chance of pulling it off.

And a foreign policy of WAR is going to "fix the natural planet"? Next time you post, try and be serious.
