That's good enough. Have you ever used it? You need to be familiar with layers. Do you want to see my iceland map and how I created my layers for that in Photoshop?

I think the Terraformed map looks great but the colors behind the text is obstructing the map and is sort of an eyesore so im going to go with the red map.

I am going to work on both and post them and see if there are any differences in the public opinion.

the red map now looks great and the idea of only attackin through one ways sounds fun.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but they're both pretty butt-ugly.... you may be using GIMP, but both maps look like Paint tools used on an existing image.

My advice would be to pick one concept (like the terraformed coastline) and really draw it yourself... maybe put a city or something there.

If you don't mind my asking, are you super into mars? Or do you just think mars would make a good map?

I dispute that. Yes, they need a lot of work, but as far as ideas go it's not a bad start.

What you need to do, is to pick one, and go with it.

I think the second one (where it is more like a planet and less like a surface map) the the best one.

I also think the gameplay is pretty nifty looking for it. The problem for you is the artwork.

This is an interesting map and one I think has some potential.
To make it one which would be appealing to play I think you need to place colonies. Maybe even some satelites or spaceships... something along those lines. Hoverships? Troop transports? And make them kindof futuristic.

Either map would work well if the graphics were tweeked with.
Greater contrast on the landscpe for a more dramatic look.
Mess with textures, colors and the theme.

Don't get discouraged, the process can be long and tedious, and you're certain to get a lot of opinions that may be disheartening.

Play around with the tools on whatever software you're using and look at other maps in a more detailed way and you'll do fine.
Good luck.

You are going to need to focus on one map per topic, so if you are serious about trying both you should make a new topic for one of them.

As it is, I personally find Red Mars to be superior.

i hate to be the party pooper around here but unless you get a better software and better skills to use it the map will never make it forward. the idea is good but the graphics suck. :?

Would anyone like to give me a hint at what about the graphics is wrong? perhaps on detail because i'm to the point of abandoning it because every one is nagging about the graphics and not telling me what about the graphics is wrong. if you are going to comment about a map you need to include all of your thoughts in order to improve any map. Also another note as i have already said this is my first map and i don't know exactly how to use any imaging software, except for Gimp which i am still learning how to even use. SO PLEASE DO NOT NAG ABOUT THE GRAPHICS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO HELP ME IMPROVE THE GRAPHICS.
