I dunno, I like the "standard" french brandy myself.

Cognac? Or Armagnac, slightly cheaper, until it hits the Tokyo market...

Well, cognac is actually more main stream, as I'm sure you have found, on my fair isle. Napoleon Brandy, is a brand in itself, with many different producers of it.

I'm curious as to why this is nap?

Its basically a mark of a certain quality, meaning it has been aged for over 4-5 years, like VSOP or XO.
Armagnac is for example one of the regions which requires 5 years.

What ive been drinking lately is v.s.o.p...how does that stand on a tasteful mans list?

It means "Very Special Old Pale", it is certainly decent cognac, but then it all depends on which you use. I personally like it in cocktails, I use Remy Martin VSOP.

The rankings basically go roughly

VS "Very Special" 1-2 year ageing
VSOP or Réserve 3 years +
Napoléon 4 +
XO (Extra Old) 6+

then you get the really high end old houses, which don't use this rating, but obviously once you enter Napoleon and XO territory it does get rather pricey.

I only drink brandy neat.

I mean, with common spirits, like vodka, you mix them, get wankered then spew up.

Brandy, In my not-so-humble-opinion is the elite of spirits. For men of class. I will not "water it down" for the sake of necking it. Nope, I enjoy 2 or 3 glasses of it, then I move onto beer....for, brandy is the drink of heroes, and beer is the drink of barbarians.

You speak true, Brandy is truly exceptional. However there are many excellent, and subtle, real drinks, made from cognac or brandy.

I see....being of a fairly ignorant island race, we do not get the same exposure to the continental way of life as you main-landers do.

In many ways, I can see why the english are hated by most of our supposed continetal brothers....we are very particular and brash.

I don't think so many people hate the english as find them funny, like most people regard the Italians, butin a more eccentric version, y'know? You'd be surprised how for most frenchies, the stereotupical englishman is either you're plus sixes wearing Bertie Wooster with a clay pipe in his mouth or a sex pistols punk in a leather jacket.

Spanish Brandy is far less expensive than cognac here in the U.S.A.
Their rating system is like this:

Solera (never tried one)
Solera Reserva (kind of like V.S. or VSOP) Fundador is pretty good. Hemingway liked it.
Solera Gran Reserva is their highest quality. Cardenal Mendoza or Carlos I are both good.

They use port casks to age the brandy which gives it a sweet, hearty taste.

Brandy in general. Except in certain cocktails, I guess. But some truly gross things can taste good in a cocktail.

C'mon, there are many great boozers, belligerently roaming the streets, looking at people funnily, hoping other people are looking at them funnily.

Red Pills?...overdosed on skittles again?
