Any other Business owners out there?

Have you ever owned a business before that had employees? Volunteers or paid, doesn't matter.

I know, chatter box. But I wanted to see those who are so willing to give advice on who should be hired and fired and whatever here actually had any experience with those sort of difficult situations.
I owned a business for 5 years and had many employees and volunteers both. Great people. Sometimes you had to do what you thought was best for the company though. And the loudest were the ones always giving their opinion but had no idea what I went through to come to that decision. Even though I tried to explain it they just didn't have the perspective. Now I am with a company and do all the hiring and firing as well as many other things. It is not easy and you have no idea unless you have been there.
Just curious, there may be many here, please post if you have. Thanks :D

Yes I'm a business owner. And yes, I've had to explain to people that what they are suggesting or doing is not good for the business. And yes, you cop flak over it.

I once hired a carpenter, and he was worthless. Ended up nailing himself to a big T he built out of wood. I fired him 3 days later when he returned.

I will take my ban now.

Have owned and operated a multi-plex for nearly 30 years. Fired a lotta people and I know that even when I'm making the best decision for the operation of the bisiness it will never be "popular" and I don't care. If I bought it and I'm paying your wages you have a feduciary responsibility to fulfill your end of the bargain.
Business ain't about being popular or "democracy". I have always told my employees that they have as much decision in anything . . . . until I disagree.
If you want to make the rules start your own company.
And I could care less if you don't "like" me. I only ask you respect me or at the very least fear losing your job.

Yes I run a business. The only difference is that I don't hire or fire anybody as part of it, as it's kind of a single man enterprise. In essence the business model is that I undress and take pictures of myself (often beating my boner), then I put those pictures on the internet for individuals unknown to me to purchase them. Occasionally I go to a local park and take the pictures there.

That is my business. Also, I look just like the guy on the monopoly box, so I must be rich.

Yes i have a buisness, and before that i was a foreman that could hire and fire.
A good boss will get the most out of his workers, everyone has different abilities.
I prefer to have people around me who know more than me or have skills that i do not have.
In my opinion that means that i do not have to like an employee to appreciate his value.

It is easy to fire someone, it is harder to replace that person with a skilled and motivated individual.

Well put, they seem to be thin at times but I seem to get the right people at the right times.
