So I volunteered to tutor homeless children. I will be teaching elementary school in a year or so and I love working with kids. (yes, Kid_A is allowed around children. The same Kid_A that posted a thread about dog sex.)

I have worked with the 5-9 age group for years. I specified on my application that I would only work with children under 10.

So yesterday I show up for my first session, and my student is a pregnant 17 year old mexican girl. She would not talk to me and just stared at me like she was trying to make me burst into flames with her mind. I do not like teenagers and I do not communicate well with them. This made for a very awkward, uncomfortable hour! :shock:

But my girlfriend thought it was hilarious so I told her she was fat! She didn't find that funny.

Oh, and did I mention that it was at a church and the girl was writing an essay on why she's against gay marriage? As an atheist who supports gay marriage that made things a tad more uncomfortable

I'm glad you've decided to explain because up until now I thought you were looking to hook up with this girl.

Try pretending that you're interested in her life. It could do wonders for addressing the uncomfortable issue.
