How can anyone be so vindictive to a kid who probably just forgot to do one homework assignment?

Mmm, whoever that kid was, maybe is taking his first year too seriously? Most kids I know would be proud to have gotten a 7% on something, they'd wear it like a badge and giggle in guilty pleasure when the teacher announced it. What is humiliating about not doing homework?
