OK, now any true baseball fan knows that when a player goes into a slump one of the supposed ways to break out of it is to find the ugliest woman around and go to bed with her in hopes this will turn his fortune around. Well reading this morning sports page I found another way. Evidently Jason Giambi of the New York Yankees when he goes into a slump where's a golden thong. A thong which he has had since his Oakland A's days. It was also noted that Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon has used a thong too when they go into a slump, whether it was Giambis thong or there own wasn't clear in the article. My wifes reply to the article was "I hope they washed it before anybody else used it", eeww.

1st matter, I don't care, no thong for me.

did you see Mark Bowden's op/ed piece in the NY Times Week in Review? entitled 'Sacks, Lies and Videotape' about how the Patriots videotaping scandal is indicative of cheating all around sports.

Bowden mentions some common baseball cheats that have gone on for decades.

i imagine, in many ways -- the spitball method of cheating is to the losing pitcher what the thong might be to the batter in a slump.

anyway, not really on topic, but it's what your post reminded me of, and i thought i'd share it. article is linked below. for those of you who aren't familiar with Mark Bowden, you probably are but don't know it. he wrote Black Hawk Down, as well as a number of other books of note, like Killing Pablo and Guests of the Ayatollah. He's also a true Philadelphian, having written for the Inquirer there for almost 20 years before graduating to the glossies like the Atlantic Monthly and New Yorker .

No I'm a Mormon from Texas. But alas I forgot my apostrophe which is the excuse I used on my wife.

But back on subject. It's just the thought of playing baseball for a couple of hours with a thong on, just wouldn't be comfortable.
