For some reason, all I can think of is a vacuum. Nothing. Emptiness. Endless black. Oh wait! That actually makes perfect sense! 8-[

When I was in hospital aome years back and about to have a small op, they asked my religion. At that time, and in that place, they apparently did this whenever you were given a general anasthetic, just in case you took the Big Sleep. Very encouraging.

SO I replied "non-denominational pantheist", which is about as close as I can get - translation: God is everywhere, but now it's time to stop askin me silly questions, cos I don't have the answers.

When I woke up, I found they'd put "C of E" on the wrist band (Church of England).

I picture God as either non-existent or as a pompous, merciless, unforgiving prick. As a superior being I'm not sure which one I'd rather be.

I picture God with a hotdog in one hand, a foam finger in the other, and wearing a Red Sox jersey with the name God and where the number should be it says "I don't need a fucking number, I'm God." I'm sure most of you would agree.

nice... was that an intentional reference to Raymond Chandler? he's one of my absolute favorite writers, and i know that he was always far more popular in Britain than he was in the states, and also taken more seriously than here, where he was lumped in with the other pulpy crime writers. but he wasn't. he was a slumming angel. turned genre fiction into genuine literature.

and not to be a nit-picky bastard, but it goes-- sleep the big sleep, not take. but either way, nice reference if intended, otherwise, interesting subliminal reference to chandler's most famous phrase.

also, i don't really imagine God. if he is God, then how could i possibly comprehend him anyway? like, do you think an ant can really comprehend a human? and to an ant, we absolutely are gods...

I like to think of Jesus, like, with giant eagle's wings. And he’s singing lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd and I’m in the front row hammered drunk.

Yes, I love Chandler. I think he must be god.

Interestingly, the image of Marlowe I have in my head is that of Chandler (because in the back of the copy of The Big Sleep that I have, there's a picture of Chandler looking rather detective-like).

To answer the original question: I don't.

And I tend not call on god when something goes wrong, more like his counterpart in fact, sort of finding someone to blame, but I think we can put that down to cultural differences between countries.

I think the question itself is a bit misleading. I don't think our imagining of God is nearly as important as the actual character of God.
God is represented Biblically as having a number of characteristics, including omnipotence, perfect justice, perfect love, and absolute separation from sin. Just in case anyone is interested in something other than opinions.

Then perhaps you should start a thread saying "how do you see the actual character of God?" - I think this thread is meant to be open to all imagined views of God, not a belief discussion.

I don't believe there is a God, but I think my envisionment of him would be somewhat differing from convention and based on a poetic character I created out of latent narcissism named Greg. "God" would be him, but ascended, apparently perfect and all-powerful.

Well now. There's one of the "All-Important" questions right there.

Tell you what, if I meet Him when I die, I'll let you guys know.
