http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1725839,00.html?imw=YThis shows videos of 100's of people beating up 3 kids who are turning to the wall and curling up in order to avoid being killed. I want to know what you think of these riots where kids are being almost killed. Also is this getting any coverage where u are, in England most people havent even heard the term emo and its getting no coverage exept in rock magazines such as Kerrang.
Also is anyone from Mexico, and what do you think?

i've known of the term emo for a good long time. since the late nineties.
like that article mentions, it's just a continuation of the alternative/grunge scene from when i was in high school.
that video reminds me a bit of my experience in high school. except it wasn't a gang of people that large. usually about five boys. and i always fought my hardest, and i always lost. (no one can take five guys).
fucking degenerate assholes. sure, emo kids are a bit ridiculous, but it takes a complete coward to beat on them. and then, to do it as a mob? fucking douche bag cowards, all of them.
seeing a video of that makes part of me wish i had been there, with a nightstick. so i could crack some of those coward, scum of the earth skulls.

Make fun of them? Yeah, why not?
Ridicule them until they write a poem about it? Sure thing.
But beat them up like that? That's excessive to say the least. Really, I don't care what music they listen to as long as they don't play it at me or how they dress as long as they're not trying to dress me in the same way. Different ideas regarding aesthetics is not sufficient as a reason for violence.

lol khaz, i wondered when ud comment, and im not gonna respond cos thats what u want lol
Also im suprised at your reactions, but pleased, as although most of you detest emo's you seem good enough to know that that is just cowardly. do you know how old those kids are....15....that would be like everyone on cc attacking my little bro...its just sick, and why isnt it getting any fuking coverage?
also linkin park isnt emo, only numb and shadow of the day are their emo songs. linkin park are nu-metal

Well, first up, that's just messed up. Emo's (the ones I know anyway) are annoying, but not to the point of wailing on them. 2nd of all, I'm pretty sure most people over here have heard the term emo. And lastly, if it took that many people just to wail on a few emos, they must have been from the computer geek group (note how they all got together via e-mail). Still excessive to beat emos up though.

Wrong, but still funny. I'm slightly ashamed.

At our school it's emos v chavs really. There are more chavs so the emos get the worst of it.

Considering emos are ripped on for being ponces, why doesn't it get into peoples heads that they're battering people who most likely won't fight back

that's why they're targeted by cowards.

It's very weird. In urban Mexico and US Southwest, alternative cultures of the "emo" ilk are REALLY common among young people. In fact, skinny tejano boys in tight jeans are pretty much my major symbolic association with "emo". I don't understand the causes of these violent reactions (which have sprung up to such a degree only very recently), and I don't think that any news sources are doing a good job of identifying them. This TIME mumbo jumbo about effeminate clothing is particularly ridiculous. In my opinion, young Mexican and Chicano "machos" who buy into generalized popular culture are pretty damn effeminate in style of dress.

lol. I bet you were a cords man yourself?
There was never really any conflict like this in my school, just a heirachy, which went as so:
1. The footballing elite
2. The tough-nuts
3. The cool girls
4. The skaters/surfers
5. The top-groupers (funny to think this actually...but generally the best footy players and tough lot were in the top classes in my school...which seems to be a different case in most other schools)

School violence? Huh? I got to a school of a good 1800 people, and the worst we've been hearing about lately is the graffiti in the bathrooms... Every so often they're an isolated fight between a couple people, or even group, but that's it... None of this "Let's target a certain group of people" bull shit. Go Canada!

That generally how it is here too, only difference is there's about 750 students.
