moshing was over by 1995.

and for the record, the most violent mosh pit i've ever been in was Rage Against the Machine, at Lollapallooza 93.

Killing in the Name Of

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ykgh0SV_yCs

Know Your Enemy (i caught a black eye during this song, so fucking awesome)

Wake Up (before it was ever given second life by the Matrix...)

Freedom (can't forget this one, i couldn't keep screaming the lyrics during this song, i took a flailing arm to the throat, and would have left the pit if i wasn't so deep in it, the only way to survive was to ride it out)

oh yeah, and another one....

Orange 9mm... straight up one of my favourite hardcore bands... saw them a couple times in the 90s. not nearly as big a pit as at something like Lollapalooza, but intense as hell....

one of their best songs^

Hardcore... There's not a single thing I like about it -- the people, the moshing, and especially the actual music.

Plus, any genre of music that has a kind of dance associated with it needs to reassess how cool it really is.

When Rage played at the Big Day Out in Auckland there wasn't exactly a mosh pit. The entire ground inside the stadium was a mosh pit. It was insane.

Mosh pits at Festivals and massive shows are generally pretty awful because you'll find a whole heap of meathead wankers who don't know how to dance properly and think it has to do with how many people you knock over.

I'm into hardcore/punk - i've been going to/playing shows for years and i've been involved with some really awesome pits and other not so great. For the most parts, though, mosh pits are pretty exclusive - though the last show I played two weeks ago was one of funnest pits i have been in for quite a while, really good vibe, and everyone was dancing.

newsflash: every genre of music has a kind of dance associated with it.

a boo yeah!

(and yes, even math rock, or indie rock. i know that dance -- it's called the Dispassionate Ironic Head Nod. you know... the indie kids with their big black framed glasses, v-neck sweaters, satchel bags or messenger bags -- standing motionless, nodding their heads slowly to the beat)
