Dire Straits - Telegraph Road

The last 5 minutes of it is pure genius. The piano in the middle section gets me every time.

Battle of Evermore- Led Zeppelin

Combine Robert Plant's haunting voice and Jimmy Page's guitar, which also sorta sounds creepy, and you get awesome.

Straight No Chaser, by Bush.

Not a ginormous Bush fan, but this song is fantastic.

edit: no, remi, who wrote that song?

Good call on Hurt.

One song which really really gets me is Fuori Dal Mondo by a composer called Ludovico Einaudi. Originally composed for an Italian film and most recently used in Shane Meadow's 'This Is England'.

"Magnum Opus" by Kansas

"Frankenstein" by The Edgar Winter Group (I heard it on a TV commercial recently, which really blew)

"Casey" by Chris Kristofferson (I think?)

Trogdor was a man
Well, he was a dragon man
(Or maybe he was just a dragon)
But he was still Trogdor.
Trogdor!

Burninating the countryside
Burninating the peasants
Burninating all the people
And the thatched-roof cottages.
Thatched-roof cottages!

And then Trogdor comes in the NIGHT!

DaGip, I'm with you again....one of the best Uilleann pipe performances I have ever seen....1st saw that a few years ago. Tried to learn Uilleann piping, but had to give up for financial reasons....but will try again. Love that video!

For my pick, I go with "Release" by Pearl Jam.

another great song. actually, The Fragile is my favourite NIN record. I loved the way Just Like You Imagined was used in the trailer for 300. too bad the movie was such crap.

oh, and to the NIN fans out there --- see Man on Fire -- the new one, directed by Tony Scott, with Denzel Washington.

not only is it a kickass movie, but they also use portions of The Mark Has Been Made, and damn it, it's perfect. Tony Scott's masterpiece, for sure, and the role Denzel Washington was born to play.

that movie is mos def one of my favourites. i'd be happy if my life ends as meaningfully and gallantly as Creasy's.

so there you go... i guess that's the song that really sends a shiver up my spine -- The Mark Has Been Made by Nine Inch Nails. i've loved it since i first heard the song, in 99, when the album came out. but 5 years later, that movie forever changed what images that song conjures.
