Government to begin rolling out ID cards 'by stealth' within a year

UK Daily Mail
Thursday, March 6, 2008

The Government has been accused of introducing identity cards by stealth after it was revealed the first of the controversial IDs will be issued early next year.

Workers in sensitive jobs will be required to apply for the compulsory cards in 2009, despite the Home Office postponing the overall scheme until 2012.

Some 100,000 British airport staff and others working in sensitive locations are expected to be affected by the move.

It is thought that "airside" workers including airline staff, baggage handlers as well as workers in duty-free shops, bars and cafes would all have to apply.

Shadow home secretary David Davis said: "It is inconceivable that these workers would not already have full ID verification.

"Therefore the question has to be will this add to airport security or is it a way of getting the British public used to an ID card by stealth - despite an explicit promise from a former home secretary that this programme would not be rolled out in a compulsory fashion without a vote in the House of Commons."

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith today unveiled a new "two-step" strategy that will see the scheme start in November this year for non-European foreign nationals.

Categories most at risk of abuse, including those seeking to enter the UK, stay here as a student or via a marriage visa will be the first to be asked to provide their biometric details.

Then next year, the scheme will be extended to UK citizens, starting with "people working in positions of trust" - namely 100,000 airport workers.

Airports, which already carry out strict security checks on employees, are expected to have to meet the £3 million cost themselves.

A year later, youngsters opening bank accounts or taking out student loans will be asked to apply for cards, meaning many parents will end up footing the bill.

Small steps to their big goal.

Next, it'll be the RFID chips in sensitive positions (Which has/is already occuring in the US)

Stop it now, before it's too late.

RFID chips are already inserted in many many clothes articles, and passports, and probably alot more other things too.

Not that many people agree with ID cards, Dekloren. But they disagree with them for perfectly sane reasons, not because they think we'll all be robots in five years time if we let it pass.

It isn't a conspiracy. The government thinks the country will be served better by a national database of biometric data, and the system will be sped up if everyone has a standardised ID. To an extent, the second point is true. There are, however, perfectly sane and non conspiratorial issues, in that if you're left off the database or ID scheme you may not be able to actually do anything in everyday life, and that one of the good features of scattered and partial databases is that if one is breached or hacked in to they don't have control of your entire life.

I certainly object to ID cards, but at no point is anyone seriously suggesting that the government are trying to implant chips in our brain.

Who gives a f*ck what the government thinks.

The government WORLS FOR THE PEOPLE.

What don't you understand about that?

Oh wait.
It doesn't work like that anymore, and no one gives a shit.

Keep letting them take away our freedoms.

Democracy?

How about facism.

What the hell are you talking about, you dick...

I, and many other people, do not agree with compulsory biometric ID cards, and the central database that requires, one single non-conspiracy theorie'd jot.

Lets see whether being aware of the Government's motivation for bringing in ID cards might help. Here are two scenarios of typical letters written to your local MP:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to raise the issue of ID cards. As you may know, many people object to the planned introduction, and I am one of them. I understand the benefits of a standardised system, and the help to security a central biometric database would provide, but I have several caveats. Firstly, the idea that we should be compelled to purchase, from our own pocket, a form of ID which would make everyday life impossible if it we were to refuse it is not a palatable one. Secondly, as we have seen from various instances of government loss of data, and the increasing problems with identity theft, I am not happy that we can securely protect a database containing all our details in one place. I would appreciate it if you would bear my views, and the views of others in this constituency, in mind when voting on such issues.

Yours Sincerely,
Mr. I. A. Msane

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to raise the issue of ID cards. As you may know, many people object to the planned introduction, and I am one of them. I cannot understand the benefits of a standardised system, and believe you plan to implant chips into our heads if we carry on down this path. You, in bed with the NWO and the lizard rulers, have been slowly eroding our personal freedoms, all the while murdering billions right under our noses. I hope you know what side of the fence you'll be on. Here is a link to a you-tube video explaining the issue. In conclusion, I would like you to vote against ID cards because, if we keep going this way, we'll all be robots in five years.

Yours Sincerely,
Mr. Dekloren
