Since it is almost St. Pattrick's day, I was just wondering...are there more Ireland maps being played this time of year?

you're missing out on something special there. Ever heard of an Ulster fry? Well it's basically a normal fry plus potato bread and soda bread - few things better!

I actually can't believe how big St Paddy's day is over in America. I know you've got a few Irish immigrants from a few hundred years back but you celebrate it more than we do. A few pints of guinness is often as Irish as it gets for me in actual Ireland!

Everybody is cooped up inside their houses so we don't freeze to death! Luckily I can entertain myself by asking silly (but yet oddly intriguing questions) such as the one I posted in this thread. However, I dare not tell you how much my dice are sucking right now, as I fear the CC forum overlords and their dreadful banning abilities!

Oh, and the recipe for Irish Soda Bread can be found here:

LOL... here in NYC the PC Police would be up your Arse.

The outcry if one made a list like this for black history month or any other ethnic holiday celebration.

Im irish my self and have always hated St. Patricks day because of the way its celebrated. Its the only ethnic holiday celebrated by packing the bars and getting shit faced drunk.

I say this with amusement.

When I think of my heritage and history the first thing that comes to mind is potatoes and beer lol!!

I understand Americans' version of St.Patty's day can be a little far fetched from what it truly is meant to be. I myself think of St.Pattrick and the large task God presented him. This year, however, I was perplexed about Trevelayn's Corn, because of the song Field's O' Athenry.

Here is the song and the meaning behind Trevelyan's Corn:

I am not familiar with the whole story, and am studying more into Irish history what I can muster.

As a person who majored in history and teaches social studies this type of story has been repeated over and over. Its my personal opinion that its more in line with human nature. Greed and Power go hand in hand with injustice.

*grin* dont get me started...history is rife with injustice.

The good news is we are also capable of great good.

That would be in line with Saint Pattrick

My original intent in posting was not to point out how St, Patricks day is represented. My original intent was to point out the double standard in the stereotyping of ethnic groups.

If I made a poll mentioning water melon, fried chicken, basketball and fatherless families...

Im not sensitive to it by anymeans I just hate hypocrisy. *grin*

I was talking about the Orange Men above.

I think Uilleann pipes....if you don't know what those are, look them up. They are Irish bagpipes that sound a crapload better than the Scottish version everyone's familiar with. If you name a movie theme with a bagpipe in it, it's almost certainly Uilleann, not Great Highland pipes. (the Scottish kind.) Braveheart included. :P Happy St. Patty's to all!

My purpose wasn't to offend any Irish, and I hope others in this thread will deem them the same respect. This thread actually was presented in General Discussion, as i was curious to know if the Ireland Map is played more leading up to St.Patty's day. Nobody has really given me an answer on that. This is not meant to be a racist thread.

Gip for the record I was not offended in the least. I was just trying to stimulate some intellegent discourse.

Some may say that this board is not the place for political discussion, which is ironic of itself.

We enjoy a game which simulates war and world domination punctuated with diplomacy.

Im off to kill some dwarves on the middle earth map..there not as easy to toss as one would think.
