USS Foresstal: McCain

My Dad served in the Navy at the same time as McCain. Luckily he got assigned to the USS Roosevelt (he was supposed to go on the Forrestal).
Anyway, when the rumors got around about the mishap on the USS Foresstal, my Dad told me that everyone said that McCain set those bombs off by trying to show off to some F-4 pilot behind him. Just thought I would share what my Dad told me. Has anyone heard similar stories on McCain?

What's with all these crazy stories about McCain? I mean, I might believe that he talked under torture in 'Nam or something along those lines but that he blew up a ship without getting even a slap on the wrist? That's pushing it.

from reading DaGip's other posts he seems to believe in this neo-con theory. Since Bush is almost on his way out I guess the new focus will be whoever the next Republican in line happens to be. I'm scared to think what he would start alleging if Mitt Romney had won.

A rocket accidentally launched from another plane on the flight deck & hit McCain's plane.
This is all quite plain to see on the flight deck video.

And there goes an other beautiful conspiracy theory, or it would if you could provide us with a credible link to the video.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=2

This is the vid right here. Notice that in the beginning the narrator says,"On deck, somehow a Zuni rocket had been triggered..."

The blame has conveniently been put on neglegience of the flight crew, but according to living eyewitnesses, McCain "wet started" his aircraft to stir up the F-4 pilot behind him. Notice that the video only starts when the accident had already occured, nothing prior to that. If you have prior video (a longer version) I would like to see it, therefore putting this silly dilly rumor to rest.

This is the problem with the americans, all people vote based on rumors and stuff that shouldn't even be dug into when it's elections. The same is with what Obama did. That's why the US is such a shitty country, no offence.

STFU! How can you say shit like that and nobody take offense to it? Why would you say that in a McCain/Foresstal thread? Stick to topic, please.

Because you mention it, and while saying that you will always have that in mind when you go voting. It sticks like a sticker to your brain. Maybe not you in particular but I am sure many people judge and then vote hence they might vote on the wrong person according to their beliefs.

I am not anti-american in any way. I think it's good what you are doing with the world (non-irony). But you guys have wicked systems in your presidential elections and people digging in the past of your candidates is usual in Sweden and all other countries too, except dictatorships.

What I am trying to say is that half of the voters is voting based on "happenings".

I find it strange that a person wouldn't want to know about the past of a candidate for the most powerful job on the planet. Some things are unfounded and in need of more research (as I have stated in this thread, this is only rumor and I was looking for anyone that has anything pointing to any truth in the matter--as you can see, there has not been any forthcoming on this particualr issue). I don't like McCain, but I think it is important that if we hear rumors (and my Dad was not the only one, he didn't just make this story up, it came from somewhere), especially about candidates for the presidency, we should do research to find the truth to the matter.

To date, I have found no credible evidence that McCain had started that explosion on the Forestal. Despite how I feel about McCain, I have to admit at least this much.

I think there is more debate over his refusal to declassify POW/MIA documents from Vietnam, than over the Forestal disaster.

Do you realize that McCain cracks jokes about bombing Iran? That he wants the US to be involved with the war in Iraq for a hundred years? This guy is a notorius hot head and shouldn't be trusted with the most powerful position on the planet (my opinion).

But despite my opinion on McCain's electability, I have yet to see any concrete evidence that he was directly involved with the Forestal explosions.

Someone's military history and the possibility of them having a role in the destruction of an American aircraft carrier is pretty damn important when considering them for president. The same thing happened with Kerry and his service record, and Bush's DUI. These things are important when choosing the next leader of the most powerful nation on earth.

I can't belive I just agreed with DaGip.

So... Your dad tells you that "Everyone" said that some stupid arse of no further importance had set off bombs on the deck but somehow he got away with it.

Fast forward some 40ish years and the same person is running for president and every other candidate is looking for shit to smear him with before they get smeared.

You retell what your dad told you and ask for similar stories.

Later in this thread you backtrack completely, admit that you have NO (credible) evidence at all for McCain being at fault, trust your dad to be able to recognize a made up story, it doesn't matter if your dad didn't make it up if there's no evidence for it. Remember the Swift boat veterans for truth? More like Swift boat veterans for throwing shit at other candidates. And here we have the same all over again.

Now then, once having admitted that this story is completely unfounded and that you don't have a leg to stand on you resort to dragging up new points about McCain in an attempt to continue your personal smearing and to bait others into sharing similar stories about him. oggiss went a little over the line when he said that your whole country sucks, but I agree with his assessment of your electoral process and the things that become important in politics over there in general. It's an utter joke, a sorry excuse for digging around in other people's pasts and see what gory details you might find. I'm amazed at the things you think are important, the lies which get tossed around through chain-mails (latest example on these boards regarding Obama). Seeing how Clinton's blowjob was blown out of proportion I really wonder what you would do to a candidate like former German chancellor Schröder, who had been divorced 3 times and married 4 (or had he been divorced 4 times and married 5, either one). Your "news" media would have a field day with something like that. But this small detail of non-existent WMDs in Iraq gets ignored, I thought they were the reason for the war, does that mean the Bush administration started a war for no good reason? And they don't even get a slap on the wrist?

To get back to McCain, wasn't the matter investigated back then? Don't you think it would have been found out if someone had set off the bombs on purpose? No! Of course not! We must reinvestigate it all over again and make everyone believe McCain is responsible, back then people were idiots who couldn't find there own arses with a map, much less realize if someone's stupid enough to set off two bombs on a carrier.

And to think that some people wonder why there are those in Europe who don't like America...

I was a firefighter in the Cdn Navy for 21 years. I had just joined when that fire was recorded, and the tape was used as a training aid for many years, and still is. No, he had nothing to do with the fire.
