need some xbox 360 help

so, i've had a ps2 for several years now, and, well, it's time to get an upgrade. i was, at first, planning to get the ps3, but it's damned expensive even with the price slashes if i also want backwards compatibility. i have always been a fan of halo, so i'm venturing for the first time into the xbox community...i am aware that HD-DVD has lost to Blu-Ray, but i am not a big movie or TV watcher, so i don't think i'll need a very big hard drive for the 360 (or care that it plays HD-DVD. so, i've had my eye on this xbox bundle
basically, this set includes
* Xbox 360 Pro console
* 20GB detachable hard drive
* Wireless controller
* Xbox Live headset
* High-definition AV cable
* Ethernet cable
* Detachable faceplate
* Xbox Live Silver membership
* HDMI port
* Forza 2 game
* Marvel Alliance game
i do not plan to watch movies, but i am planning to play some of the old xbox games, and i believe i need a hard drive for that. what i'm asking is:
do i need any extra accessories? (i plan to subscribe to Xbox live and play online).
how do i be as cost effective as possible? (e.g. are there better sets than this..are buying the system and accessories separately a better deal? etc.)
will the xbox lag on my TV? it is a standard definition TV.

Other then the games, I got the same system as you are considering. But if you want to play with friends at your place or whatever, I suggest getting at least one more remote. As for the lagging, the TV I have mine hooked up to (I do believe it is a standard one) does not cause any lagging that I've experienced. And the system that doesn't have a hard drive is only suitable for demos and the like, so getting the Pro is a good deal. As for Live, can't help much there because I don't do that (yet anyways). Also in Halo 3, there are some kick-ass new weapons to play, just for a heads up. :wink:

They don't make games or controllers for it anymore. Trust me, I could use new controllers. :(

Yeah, controllers. And I use the hard drive to store game data on, and basically keep games saved (like Dynasty Warriors Gundam, Halo 3, and a few others). I am pleased with the results though. :wink:

Well, I got the system plus an extra controller for about that much here. If it's more expensive where you live, your on your own.

The things you really need to start:

1) The Xbox 360
2) A Hard Drive (the 20GB is plenty lots)
3) A Controller (assuming you don't have other people in your house that want to play - if you do, make them buy their own controller)
4) An ethernet cable and a router/modem to plug it into
5) Xbox Live Subscription
6) Halo 3

Playing Halo 3 online will keep you occupied for more than long enough that you don't need to buy another game. If FPSs aren't your thing, go for NHL08. If sports games aren't your thing, go for Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell DA (although I recommend the entire Splinter Cell series) or Mass Effect.

If you can afford it, get Rock Band.

And finally, PM soundout9 and ask him to be let into the Next-Gen Gamers clan. There are many more people there willing to help you with your decision.

the fact they dont make controllers anymore should be a prosecutable offense.

My wife and three girlfriends got free tickets to the "Rachel Ray" show a few weeks ago here in New York. Much to my surprise, she gave everyone in the audience a free XBOX 360 Arcade bundle. WOOHOO!!

I am officially addicted. Already got the HDMI Cable (a must have), 120gb hard drive, wireless adapter, a second wireless controller and a bunch of games. XBOX Live is fantastic. ...and if you don't have the Half Life 2 "Orange Box", get it. It rocks!

Waiting for the Tax Refund to get Rock Band. :lol:

ah, well, i plan to get all the halos to start out. (halo 1-3)
i already have rock band, for ps2, and i think it'll be rather unnecessary having two of each peripheral for a different system.
unless, of course, i sell all my ps2 stuff

halo heroic maps will be free soon so dont waste the microsoft points, but you've got a pretty good setup from what I can see. and FYI once you create an XBL account for the first time, you get a 1 month free trial of a gold membership, so make one when your ready to play online.

other games I recommend COD4, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Ace Combat 6, Guitar Hero III, Rock Band. Also keep in mind some badass games being released later this year- Rainbow Six Vegas 2, GTAIV, GoW2, Halo Wars.

20 GB hard drive is just the right size unless you plan too download a shitload from market place, rip a shitload of music, or save a shit load of games.

Well, if you want to play them on the 360, you do need the original CD unless it's bootlegged or downloaded. But it should work just fine with the original.
