I'm NOT a Yank!

I am an American citizen. That term might have worked back in the 1700s, but now it only works for the New England states! So could you guys find something a bit newer? Or am I going to have to start calling you guys lobster backs and the likes? Also, I've never been to the East coast, much less to the Mississippi! That's like calling all of you British folks English. And knowing how the Scots, Whelsh, and Irish feel about that, you get the idea.

I have an amazing accent when I'm drunk. "Tally-ho, pip-pip, and all that." At least, it sounds amazing to me. Most people tend to ignore me when I bring it out...

Actually, my drunken English isn't quite so patronizing. It's basically just changing a few stressed syllables. It's quite awful, really.

In the past, I moved around the US so much that my accent was basically just generic American English. It had midwestern hints from my parents, southern hints from living in Alabama, and even some odd dialectical tones from living in Hawaii. But I can almost promise you that you would have been able to pick me out of a crowd if I was the only American. Nowadays, I've been in Georgia long enough to have picked up the drawl...

chucgh, the problem is that a lot of people from outside new england do not like to be called yankees. You could be creative enough to come up with something else than what general cornwallis would have called us.

Yeah, you must have misread. I mean that people from the south, west, etc. probably would prefer not to be called yankees. I know I would not be happy about it.

Honestly, you guys do. Everybody has accents more or less. Only newsreaders and people like that don't have a distinguishable accent.
It's not, however, the accent most americans expect you have. It's not "Pip-pip, jolly good chap. That is a marvellous jacket you have." but more "Oi mate, wot you lookin at?" Though that may just be only the tourists...
Why would the UK be different from the rest of the world regarding accents?
