I'm a liberal, but I like my nation. So I'm choice number three too.

I think I will take my(our) flag to Austria/Switzerland. So your flag can stay home and cook for the winners. \:D/

Though in general I consider "patriotism" a psychopathy, I answer "hardly/rarely", because there are some things about my country that I like.

I love Jimmy Carter, fast food, Canada & Mexico, our national parks, shooting off fireworks on the 4th of July, PBS, and the song "Grand Old Flag".

I think 3 or 4, though I answered 5 because I like voting for whatever I want.

Really? And how exactly do you define patriotism then?

I'd have to say 2 or 3 for me.

Ish. There's a difference between patriotism and jingoism that's too often overlooked. I'm proud to come from a nation which has produced such great people as Winston Churchill, Nelson, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and so on, but I doubt that would affect my judgement much if I had to choose something on basis of my nationality (because it's the present that controls the decisions of the moment ultimately, not the past).

Oh dear me! Patriotism! After all the evil that has been bred by the inherent racism and patriarchal structuring of this base sentiment. How can people possibly feel pride in their roots when everyone elese's are equal!

Blind love for the country. Ofcourse, that isn't neccesarily the actual definition, but to me patriots are often way too chauvinistic. I like parts of my country, and many of the people in it, but a) I don't act like my country is the greatest and b) I don't turn a blind eye to the evil things my country did and still does.

Because we have a shit president, a Congress and House that don't have a back bone, a vice president who is a monster, an economy that it's in the crapper, and a foreign policy that tends to like to use force instead of diplomacy. I want nothing to do with it. I don't want my hard earned taxes funding this war, and funding this government that doesn't listen to its' people. I believe the rebels that separated from Brittan all those years ago called it Taxation without Representation.
