Religion Doesn't Make Sense

Postby Dancing Mustard on Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:40 am

How can one religion claim to be right when there are other competing religions that claim to be correct? Surely Christians must be wrong or Muslims must be wrong? How can either side prove the other is talking crap.

If they can't then surely religion is fake?

It's a conspiracy.

Religion is based on belief. As strongly as someone claims their religion is correct it can never be anything more than opinion and belief. Even if lots of people believe the same thing.

So i guess im agreeing, some or all of the religions are wrong. Having said that it may just be that some of the religions are slightly misguided and in fact there is a god who called himself Alah to some and God to others and Zues to others. Perhaps they all partly correct. Who knows.

Personally i dont believe in any of the aforemention organised religions.

Having said that..I am not a beleiver.

OK, now I can talk. We can't say if they are right or wrong, in any cases, at least for me, the proofs are not there. They could all be right, in a certain way.

Maybe they ARE preaching the same God, under a different name.

..As for the way of doing it. Eh, we can't say every religions are 100% correct on the matter. But what DM said is not actually true. At least, not yet.

Out of the four people praised, Jesus is one of the two who people consider a god. Mohammed is not, he is the chief prophet of Islam but no mention is made of his sanctity by him or any intelligent Muslim.. Buddha isn't really a god in his own right as per the Book religions, he "merely" gained the highest level of enlightenment, which can be attained by humans and therefore isn't really a "God" in the manner of the book religions. Hercules is Kevin Sorbo and therefore rocks.

Nope. He's been God since Nicea in 325.

I think they are all right and wrong. I think that all religions achieve what they intend by giving humans a framework through which to understand their world and feel secure and have an approach to how they should go about their lives. As far as being 'right' with respect to the definition of God, I think they are all wrong. If there is an infinite God, systematizing Him limits Him. Limiting the unlimited becomes necessarily wrong. 'Godel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid' is a pretty good book that talks about systems, and basically it demonstrates that no system can be fully described without reference from outside the system. So, the only real definition of God is undefined. In that sense, I think all religions are wrong.

Oh, if we're going back before official' God-dom then he was ever thus. Unless you're a proponent of the Arian heresy Jesus existed eternally. 'And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds (æons), Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father'.

I shall refer you to the part where I said I was not a beleiver..

I think that explains why I have no clues of who is a god or not.

If people are saying Jesus is a god...Well, eh, I am not the one who can deny it now.

If you knew Greek Mythology, you would know that after he died he became the Greek God of Strength. Also, that is the Roman version of the name, the Greek version was to mock Hera mainly with it being Heracles.

Not so much mock her as glorifying her. Kleos is greek for glory or renown.

Yes very. It is thanks to her that he became renowned through the country, as she made him do things and stuff like that.

But it's a bit strange seeing as all other sons had far easier times. Zeus was quite a ladies-man, whether they liked it or not.
