Should I get an Ipod Touch?

What do you guys think of the Ipod Touch? Is it worth it? I'm looking to get a new mp3 player, and was going to get the Nano, but thought why not just get the touch and have 'net so I don't have to lug my laptop everywhere when travelling. Is the 'net on there decent? Can I access sites normally with the Safari browser? ooh, can ya play games here with safari?

Edit... I want the mp3 player for running/working out, so I don't want skipping.

Skipping is actually great cardiovascular exercise, and should be part of any serious fitness regime.

If these ipods have the same web browsing set up as iphones, they will rock. You can zoom in on text boxes etc by double tapping. CC is a doddle.

haha, OK, will add skipping into my routine.

yes, it's pretty much an iphone w/o the phone.

What is a doddle?

If you want to spend an extra 100$ for internet, then it's a good choice. Is having internet on it more of a gimmick or do you plan to use it a lot?

Well if the internet is good enough that I don't have to bring my laptop on trips, then yeah it would be worth it, as I travel frequently. So I guess a better question is, is the internet on there worth an extra $100? Could it replace my laptop for weekend trips?

I went through the same decision not too long ago, and settled on the Nano. I went to the store and gave each one a pretty decent test drive, watched some video clips to see if the difference in screen size made a difference, etc.

In the end, unless you REALLY are going to be using the internet a whole ton, the extra money isn't really worth it. When watching a video, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, definitely not $100 dollars worth of a difference.

Also, I have a friend with one, and while the internet is nice, it take a little while to get used to moving around on it with that touch screen and can sometimes be a bit of a hassle.

My opinion: Get yourself a nice 8GB Nano in your favorite color.

... I do like the pink nano.

but when I move to the office across the street soon, I won't have access to CC. Are games playable on the Touch? and a Touch is a lot easier to bring on a trip. hmm... maybe I should go down and check out the internet on one of these at the store.

I definitely recommend testing them out at the apple store.....just try not to turn to the dark side. The Internet is WiFi only, as it does NOT have a "phone" in it, and thus can't use AT&T's network for internet access.

Yeah I think that's a good thing though, from what I've heard their net service sucks. I'd only use it for WiFi anyway. There's a few free WiFi places around here and most of the hotels I stay at have WiFi as well.

Have you played around with the touch bed?

You will definitely want to go give them a test run at the Apple Store. That is one thing I've noticed about Apple products, always go make sure you like that product first. Plus, then the guys can answer any questions about the internet part.

oh I always play around with the touch bed.

I've used the iphone, which is decent....although severely lacking in several areas to make it useless until the next version comes out.... I believe they are the same device, just with the phone part ripped out....

Now go proclaim me the winner of the 20Q!

Hey Wiki,

Get a Cowon D2. It can do 8gb just as well as the iPod Touch, and it also has a touch screen. Woo!

Plus Cowon has a rep of having GREAT sound. Plus it handles every music file the iPod handles, except Apple's protected file) oplus a few others. Built in FM tuner. An SD/SSD card expansion slot, which just adds the amount of music you can hold. And it's cheaper! The 8GB model runs 250 dollars. The same iPod Touch model runs 50 dollars more!

So, in short, you get more with Cowon for cheaper. ;)

Personally, even though I am an Apple product type of guy, I prefer the Firefox browser over Safari.

If you're only going to use it for listening to music, get a cheap mp3 player of some brand you might never have heard of before. Seriously, with the pods you pay 1/3rd of the money for the name of the product.

That's what I did the first time and it was crap and not conducive to working out (wouldn't fit an armband). I'm the last person on earth who cares about name brand, but I like the size and features of the nano and touch. In addition to music, I want to be able to watch movies, and possibly get online.

As much as this may pain you, ask soundout9. He has an iPod touch and has used it to get on CC. In terms of using Safari to browse the internet, it's not bad... Firefox is better, but Safari is faster. It is certainly better than IE! It's just the reliability of it all, I think. If you can only access the WiFi under ideal conditions, then it's not really worth it now, is it?

Hasty words, my friend. There's still some doubt as to "her" sex.
But hey, if you swing both ways, it could be match made in Hell :)
