I'll admit the scene where he has to go into the dark building to rescue his dog is one of my alltime favorites... I mean that one scene beat a ton of full horror movies by itself.

Good enough for the first two thirds or so... Awful closing third.

Could have been so much better. They didn't develop the Zombies one bit, yet they gave them a leader, the ability to set traps... threw in their increasing propensity to endure sunlight... Could have been developed in a very interesting way, yet wasn't. The original book and movie were miles better.

Ended up as just another American saves the world type effort. In the original they crucify him. The whole point of the 'legend' reference is that the community of zombies actually begin to regard him as the monster, because he has the power to kill them almost at will during the day. It deals with some interesting themes completely ignored by the 2007 version.

Will Smith was pretty good, though.

It was really good. The zombies/infected people were too blatantly CGed though. I know there is no other way it could have been done, but after the first few times they weren't scary...they looked like Shrek.

True. The book is about uncertainty and helplessness, in the face of overwhelming nothingness, a theme entirely missed by the film in many respects.

Maybe your right. I just sort of assumed that because they are a bit more intelligent and organised in the book.
