Substitute for guns?

Postby muy_thaiguy on Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:56 am

Replace all guns with swords? Both were designed to do one thing, and that is kill. But guns though, there is trick shooting, sportsmanship, contests, hunting. Swords are only good for what they were designed to do, but I guess they would do alright for self-defense, but if you anticipate a move wrong, you're dead. The gun, you can take out that person before they see you. Not exactly killing them, but shooting them in the leg or arm generally disables them enough to not pose to much of a threat, and then able to call the police. But with no gun in your house, and the person that means you harm is armed with a gun or knife, you are generally screwed unless you know how to fight someone with a knife, which most people do not know how to do.

What I am saying is (okay, ranting is more like it) that guns do serve practical uses. And if people are responsible enough to teach their kids about gun safety, and take them hunting or something similar, for the most part, they will be okay. I don't want to here the lame "guns kill people!" They don't, people do. It takes a person to pull that trigger, many of which (criminals I mean), obtained their firearms illegally, and many probably were not instructed very well by their parents in such matters.

Okay, so it is a bit of a political ranting in general.

Swords are way cooler.

A lotta people have guns, but suck with the aiming and I've heard about a lot of gun "accidents" in my area, but I hate to agree with you. Gun control results in more gun violence for some reason...

Take your children out to kill innocent creatures with lethal weapons! How could they possibly get the wrong idea?

Killing doesn't make people kill. Bowling makes people kill. We must ban bowling in the name of Michael Moore!

Are you trying to debate/make a point. Or are you just babbling under the influence of various mind-degrading narcotics?

I was making fun of Michael Moore. I think he is wrong. We should allow guns to roam the streets. I think the government should give people guns instead of social security, because it would be less socialist.

Swords serve more as a defense IMO. When you have a sword, you have to get up close to kill people so you put yourself at risk too.

swords are cooler then guns but that's not the point in today's society. Instead of replacing guns with swords, how about we get rid of both of them, and make it harder for killings to happen. ;)

I watched Bowling for Columbine, which describes gun violence as a result of free gun distrubition and an attitude of fear. I looked at Wikipedia and it said that gun violence is caused by gun control.

I guess it's because people don't wanna listen to the government. Look at the wikipedia article about gun control. It lists a few dozen incidents where gun control failed to prevent or curb gun violence.

Y'know, I always hear people talking about how "What if somebody walks into your house with a knife or a gun!?", but really, how often does that happen to you guys!? I mean, us Canadians leave our fucking doors unlocked, and the only people that walk into our houses are people that we want there and Micheal Moore!
