The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.

Here's a novel idea: Do your own homework! You are currently using the internet and asking a group of board game players to tell you about the cell? Ask Google or your textbook the same question and you will probably find a much more appropriate, thorough, and correct answer.

if u want some basic info and a bit fun try this: http://www.cellsalive.com/
go under cell biology, cell models, then click on animation and voila there's an interactive cell right in front of you...(click at organelle to see specific info)

but if u need some serious info then buy Cooper's book "The cell"

hope i helped

p.s. google doesn't always help especially when looking some valuable info ( by that i mean not sports, porn, music or other recreational topics). guess will have to wait for semantic internet to finally get somewhere.

Qft.

Dude I find stuff on wikipedia about enzymes and shit, it's kinda weird that it wouldn't have the basics of a cell on it...

http://www.google.com This is a link to the wisest being on the planet, it will give you answers to ANY question you ask it. You just must ask the right questions and find a credible source, much like the search for god.

Ah, omnipotence....

Ok this was my answer on the test. All I find in the sites tell me the same thing. I can't find out what I did wrong...

Cells fall into one of two categories, prokaryotic or eukaryotic. In a prokaryotic cell, found only in bacteria and archaebacteria(-Spelling?), all the components, including the DNA, mingle freely in the cell’s interior, a single compartment. Eukaryotic cells, which make up plants, animals, fungi, and all other life forms, contain numerous compartments, or organelles, within each cell. The DNA in eukaryotic cells is enclosed in a special organelle called the nucleus, which serves as the cell’s command center.

Eukaryotes, insides of the cells are organized into separate membrane wrapped organelles, including a nucleus and mitochondria. An important organelle found in eukaryotic algae is the chloroplast, which contains the light-absorbing pigments responsible for capturing the energy in sunlight during photosynthesis. In most algae the primary pigment is chlorophyll, the same green pigment used in plants.

Chloroplasts, a organelle, contain numerous internal compartments called thylakoids where enzymes aid in the energy conversion process. A function of this is to create glucose. The purpose of glucose would be to form ATP for energy.

Organelle structures? I can tell you they have their own set of DNA, and mitochondrial DNA is exclusively from the mother. I don't remember much else though.
