It's something almost untranslatable and hard to understand without a proper understanding of a lot of things.
I'll give it a try, but I don't know will you understand. It's something like: Mila kuda si planina - you are dear as you are hilly.
Simonov will probably try to find official translation that makes more sense.

Our national anthem starts like this (and I's his official title): Lijepa naša domovino - Our beautifle motherland

you could try with: "your mountains are dear to us" if u want to get the meaning but we say it in a different way - you english-talking people wouldn't understand it cause your language is so crude. slavic languages are among most beautiful in the world...

Croatian
Lijepa naša domovino,
Oj junačka zemljo mila,
Stare slave djedovino,
Da bi vazda sretna bila!
Mila, kano si nam slavna,
Mila si nam ti jedina.
Mila, kuda si nam ravna,
Mila, kuda si planina!
Teci Dravo, Savo teci,
Nit ti Dunav silu gubi,
Sinje more svijetu reci,
Da svoj narod Hrvat ljubi.
Dok mu njive sunce grije,
Dok mu hrašće bura vije,
Dok mu mrtve grob sakrije,
Dok mu živo srce bije!
Official English translation
Our beautiful homeland,
O so fearless and gracious,
Our fathers' ancient glory,
May you be blessed forever.
Dear, you are our only glory,
Dear, you are our only one,
Dear, we love your plains,
Dear, we love your mountains.
Drava, Sava, keep on flowing,
Danube, do not lose your vigor,
Deep blue sea, tell the world,
That a Croat loves his people.
Whilst his fields are kissed by sunshine,
Whilst his oaks are whipped by wild winds,
Whilst his dear ones go to heaven,
Whilst his live heart beats.

What a crappy translation. But I think that most of the things are untranslatable (comparing to the original form).

english news wrote:But he instead sang 'Mila kura si planina' which can be interpreted as 'My dear, my penis is a mountain'.
wrong. it could sound like something similar since "kurac" means penis. but this translation is pretty free, this wouldn't be a sentence in croatian.

but kura isn't penis in Croatian.
kurac is the word you are looking for!
And yes ladies, I'm just regular-sized Croat.
