I absolutely hate to throw out a lot of money for hotels. However, there are good ones and bad ones. If you have traveled, what is the best hotel/motel experience you've ever had. What is the worst hotel/motel you've ever stayed at?

My best experience was at a Best Western in Seattle, Washington. Workout room, indoor pool & jacuzzi, free in-room internet, polite staff, and an absolutely wonderful complimentary breakfast.

My worst experience was at a Microtel (which should be named Microhell) in San Antonio, Texas. The bathtub stopped up, the tv didn't work, they tried to overcharge me on my bill, no complimentary breakfast even though it was advertised on the internet when I booked it, and the air conditioner was more like a fan (if you've been to Texas during summer you know why that's a big deal).

What's the best...what's the worst?

Normally I stay with family when going somewhere, but in cases where there are no family members, I have found that Holiday Inn and the Rainbow Casino & Hotel are pretty good places to stay.

when i travel round aussie i know at least someone on every capital city so i stay with them

I always use Best Western.

Best - 4 seasons in Houston Texas. lived there for about 18 months for work. It was incredible. from the second day on every employee knew my name. After the first week they knew what I wanted for breakfast, and when I wanted it. I never had to actually call and order.

They sent me birthday presents, sent my wife birthday presents, Christmas cards. Once the staff learned what sports I liked, the concierge called everytime they had good seats to either the Houston Rockets or the Astros, to see if I wanted to buy them.

I still keep in touch with several of the staff at that hotel.

Worst - Hurricane, Utah Comfort Inn. reservation for a week, barely survived the night. There was one room a few doors down where the alarm went off at 4:30am in the morning at full volume for 90 minutes. The walls were so thin that it woke me up two rooms away.

I didn't mind that so much because the alarm noise drowned out the couple that was having Marathon sex all night in the next room. The walls were so thin that it was like I was in the same bed with them, but not in a cool way.

I would have not minded being in their bed because I couldn't sleep in my bed. When I pulled back the covers I discovered that there were smears of what appeared to be blood dried on the sheets. I called and went to the front desk to ask them to service the room, but no one ever came.

I went to the front desk and told them I would change the sheets myself, but the high school drop-out working the front desk did not have a key to the linen closet. I ended up sleeping in the chair.

The free internet was password proctected, and the front desk didn't know the password.

The free continental breakfast was a waffle maker, cereal, toast and juice. Everything but the cereal was rotten, and there was no milk for the cereal.

I stay in a hotel. Because I'm phat like that.

I don't travel much now but when i do i use the hilton hotels .

Thay are all way's pleasant , and the food is of a good standard.

Never stay in one of those Formula One Hotels. They stink.

I went to Thailand before and stayed at the Indra Regent, which was amazing for its really low price. (It was part of a whole package deal (one that was actually good), flights, accommodation, etc... So I don't know the exact price.)

If you're planning to go to a particular place then I'm sure someone in the forums will be able to help you find a particular hotel/B&B/whatever if that's what you're looking for.

... It all comes down to budget, doesn't it? If you want a nicer place with stuff like a workout room, a good continental breakfast, cable TV with every channel you want, etc.. I say Holiday Inn Express. They run $105 a night down to $79 a night, depending on the location of the hotel. I really like staying there, when I can afford it.

... Motel 6 is where I go when my primary concern is getting some good sleep. Nothing is ever broken, the rooms are clean, and it's a national chain with decent service. The cheapest one I ever stayed at was $34 a night. ... they don't get much more expensive than that, actually. If I'm going to stay at a Motel 6 I take a good book, as TV has basic cable, if you're lucky, but nothing else.

... I dislike RedRoof Inne. They are fine, I guess, as far as accomodations - everything works, and basic cable, but the price is too high for what you get, starting at around $69.
