Did this in Britain last week. I hate the time change at this time of year. Why have it so that before I even finish work at 5:30pm, it's already nearly pitch dark outside? Why can't we stay on British Summer Time all year round? Highland farmers be damned.

What my rant comes down to is this - I vastly prefer dark mornings to dark evenings. It's not as if most people were planning to do anything in the morning apart from go to school/work, is it? But they might actually be able to make more use of lighter evenings.

Same here. Dark mornings are ok, but I want some light in the evening. I dont want it so that if I want to play football or go outside its dark by half 5. Did get an extra hour of sleep though, which was good.

The time change is a farce. Its supposedly done to stop kids having accidents on the way to school, but it kills more people every year as the accident rate increases massively when tired people are driving home from work in the dark. But they'll never change it back as guaranteed the tabloids would have a field day when the first kid was run over in the dark morning. No ones interested in the "potential" lives that would be saved, as they're faceless individuals - so politicians are too scared to effect change.

Its not for that reason. It was originally because of the World Wars. Its just never been scrapped since then.

that's just the reasoning they use to keep it alive.

Didn't know that - why did they change it in the war then?

"We've got a cunning plan to beat the Hun"
"What is it? Better tanks like the Russians? A new super bomb like the American A-bomb? A death ray? What?"
"No its simple, we'll put the clock back an hour so that our dawn raids will come before their dawn raids!"
"By jove you've cracked it! We'll catch them napping. Chalk another one up for our backroom boffins!"

Funny.

I'm sure you can find the answer by searching.

The reason time changes in the US is because of agriculture... Back in the 1700s-1800s, before electricity was invented or commonplace, farmers needed all the time they could possibly have to work. This allowed them to get the most out of their day.

Now, with the advent of so many things that allow us to see in the dark, this is no longer needed.

It is an archaic and retarded thing that should be abolished...

Put us at one time or the fucking other.

I really don't want to go outside when it's 40 below just to see the time. A grandfather clock or old fashioned alarm clock should work just as well.

No, because then you'd have a legitimate way to tell the time.

This way, if I oversleep, "sorry, I couldn't tell what time it was on the sundial".

Genius!
