BBC News wrote: Police guilty over Menezes case
London's Metropolitan police force has been found guilty of endangering the public over the shooting dead of a man officers mistook for a suicide bomber.
The force broke health and safety laws when officers pursued Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes to a Tube station and shot him seven times, a jury found.
It was fined £175,000 with £385,000 costs over the 22 July 2005 shooting.
The Old Bailey jury said police chief Cressida Dick, who led the operation, bore "no personal culpability".
Ms Dick, now deputy assistant commissioner of the force, had been accused by prosecutors of failing to keep control of her officers.
Despite calls for his resignation, Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said outside court that he was not resigning.
The unprecedented, highly controversial trial came after prosecutors said that no individual officer could be held responsible for the electrician's death at Stockwell Underground station.
Instead, they said the force, represented by the Met Commissioner's Office, should be tried for failing to protect the public from the risks posed by a suspected suicide bomber on the loose.
The Met vehemently denied the allegation during the trial, saying that there was no case for it to answer....
[...]
The trial and investigation is estimated to have cost around £3.5 million in public money.
Bout time. What do people think of this?

I'd say that the Police department was not punished enough...
I hope the officers who were guilty of that atrocity were fired...
And, sorry, a bit of the subject.. But...
police chief Cressida Dick
That is a WOMAN's name???

it was pointless.
all you do by having these sorts of trials, is to waste british tax payers money, and the make all the policemen nervous about taking any action.
I mean if the police saw someone who looked like a suicide bomber running towards a trainstation and did not take him down if he refused to stop, the blew up innocent people they would be criticised, if they shot him then they could get fined and fired.
My point is which suicide bomber is going to give himself up to the police?

looks like criminals are running your police departments too.
and the value of citizens in the UK are worth nothing, just like here too.
all because of government made boogiemen.
you will lose more Freedoms and Liberty as well because governments want total control over their subjects and tax slaves.
Elites made Facism and the Commies and now they have made the terrorists, a never ending manufactured war where 1984 is here.

I hate when I agree with Xtra, but some of this is quite true.

Menezez was an innocent, who was being tailed by 2 cops, and then killed.
I want to hear a better explanation from the police as to why they took his life. This just isnt accountable enough.

Have you read anything about the case? That really isn't what happened at all. The trial stated that he acted no differently to any other commuter on the day. He categorically was not a suicide bomber, and the reason the police even contemplated the fact that he could be was through their error. He could have been stopped and questioned as he left his house but he wasn't because of police error. For a suspected suicide bomber, they let him get a hell of a long way on public transport.
What you do with these sorts of trials is help ensure the police don't shoot as many innocent people. From now on they'll be doubly sure of their orders, the status of targets and the like...

I was not saying that that is what happened, i was just saying that with that sort of situation you could be damned if you do, damned if you dont.

So they shouldn't be prosecuted?

I think the whole thing has been overblown. Yes the police messed up and made errors, and they've admitted them. They cant really do too much to sort it out, as it was just some poor communication. Remember, it was the day after the failed bombings of 21st July, they were nervous and they thought that they had a suspected suicide bomber.

... It was a tragic mistake. Menezez and the police who shot him had the misfortune of living during a time when terrorists are blowing up crowded trains and flying into buildings.
... But yeah, in spite of all that, punishment should be handed out, and more than a slap on the wrist.
...

Yeah, I think its overblown too.
cops jobs are hard.
i think they need to get medals and go to disneyland.
Free citizens that take this abuse from their public servants deserve more death from their tyrants.
when men actually had balls those cops would have been strung up and hung by a just mob.

Have to agree with xtra on this one. If you don't have the balls to defend yourself, you deserve to get raped.
