Sound rather serious.

The article here is dated Oct. 19... but either way, that's serious.

hahaha... Too much truth in that statement... And while the irony is amusing, the real life affects are not.

I wish them all well.

We still have a little under 3 months and we got over an inch just in the last 2 days with rain expected to continue for the rest of the week. Meanwhile, I live on a river so I can get water anytime I want. But yes it's getting rather serious, to the point where many have started to make jokes about "borrowing" some water from Texas.

my teacher also mentioned some feud between Georgia and Florida...something like Florida's water powers the whole state so they don't want to share it :?:

I was only talking about this the other night with my American housemate, who was talking about how poor the news is when the fact that Atlanta had declared a state of emergency (according to him) but it wasn't mentioned at all on the news. I told him to stop watching the main commercial stations and watch SBS which is the best Australian news service and actually looks indepth overseas.

The one interesting thing though, is I hadn't head about Atlanta's water before he told me, but I had heard about California's bush fires, but in a totally horrible context, the quote i heard on the tv went something like this

"Bushfire's are blazing through California destroying acre's of property "

Oh fucking, no. Property!! They didn't mention that water shortages may soon find an entire city without water, no, they talked about the loss of property. I don't know if anyone has died or been injured in the bushfires, but it just shows exactly what the corporate/media world really cares about, which is a little sad to say the least

The deal is that the Chattahoochee is the main source of water for Atlanta, W. Georgia, NW Florida, & E Alabama. Georgia wants to cut back on the amount of water going into Florida from the Chat. to help conserve water here, but Florida keeps arguing against it, because of mussels that live in the water where the Chat meets the Gulf of Mexico would suffer if water levels become lower and they use the Chat. for drinking water. Also I believe you are right that they use water for power but the main issue is more centered around the Chat. We have similar issues with Alabama and the fact that many of those that use the Chat for their water supply don't have ANY water restrictions and are using water freely.

Basically the scenario is, if and when (when more likely at the rate we're going) Lake Lanier dries up, Atlanta's screwed.
