I was just wondering before, how did some words turn into insulting and totally different meanings then what they originally started with?

Examples -
Gay: Originally meant Happy, but now can mean homosexual or another insult
Fag: Meant stick, but now means as above
Faggot: Meant pile of sticks, means above now.
Dumb: Actually means deaf/mute/blind but now is taken as an insult

Why did these words change and how?

It was originally S.H.I.T. and stood for "Ship High in Transit".

This was put on fertilizer because the fumes they produced when in contact with water, combined with some fool lighting something up would cause explosions on ships.

The strange thing is, is that my parents were planning to go to Myanmar in about 3 weeks but they had to cancel stuff cause of the protests.

It's really sickening that the government can't handle a few thousand Buddhists and civilians protesting for more human rights, so they just either beat them, shoot them, or take them away

Thats what they were hoping for though.. By watching the brutality of the way the protestors are attacked it gives a clear message to the rest of the world as to how bad the situation is with the authoritarian government there. This strategy was used as well in 1960s America with the Freedom Rides in Birmingham, Alabama where black people were beaten up for protesting and just riding in a bus through the area, thus showing the true extent of racism in the South of America at the time.

'Faggot' is because they used to burn hommers at the stake.

Or another insult? I thought more of you than this Skittles. What's is wrong with being homosexual? I don't consider it an insult, and when I do hear people use in an insulting way, I can generally tell they're homophobic bigots, or just ignorant. Same thing really.

I dont think he means being homosexual is wrong, just that saying thats someones gay can be an insult as well as meaning homosexual. I know what he means. People call each other gay when they do stuff, no because they are homosexual, but just because gay is a word people use to insult each other, like twat or wanker.

dumb means mute. Not deaf/blind.

and lame was used to describe someone who couldn't walk
