And last time we tried having an "Independence" thread, I believe it escalated into something unwanted.

I know, I'm just hoping it doesn't turn as bad as the American one did.

Oh poor Guinea-Bissau. Though free from Portuguese oppression, they've been wracked ever since by the oppression of civil war and incredible poverty.

Ever heard the saying "Speak of the devil and he appears", well, you better don't do it.

As a side note, in the swedish version of that saying you speak of trolls instead of the devil, which I think is a lot more fitting on an internet forum.

I only remeber that it turned away from it's original purpose, and that was to celebrate America's Freedom, and that it turned into a debate about something, I wonder if another person who remembers it will post a link or something. :?

I'm guessing American ignorance also had something to do with it.

I'm positivive this thread was derailed in no more than 7 posts, btownmeggy almost saved it, unfortunately she fast-posted me when I replied to muy_thaiguy, if I had seen her posts earlier things might have gone differently, they just might.

Hmm. Apparently in the Bolama Archipelago, to the south-west of Guinea-Bissau:

Wikipedia wrote:a matriarchal or at least matrilineal social system has survived to the present day, although it is currently being eroded by globalization and Christian missionary influence.

In this system, women choose husbands who are compelled to marry them, and religious affairs are controlled by a female priesthood.

A better alternative than Aristasia?
