The Rise of the Wii

I found a brilliant quote from the BBC website the other day:

"While Sony has struggled with the PS3 and Microsoft has continued to throw money at the 360, Nintendo has risen to become one of the main players in the video games industry with the rise of the Wii, in just under a year."

So why has the Wii been successful? Usually when Nintendo are struggling, they play the Pokemon card (50 more Pokemon this time around? YES!) but it seems they really have stuck gold with the Wii.
Did it capitalise on the failures of Sony and Microsoft? Or is it a painful reminder that some of us actually like our "retro" games. Dear dear...

It's popular because it's innovative. Motion sensor technology is the key to it's success. On top of that, it appeals to all demographics, unlike the PS3, which appeals to the rich nerd, something either nonexistent or in short supply.

 Rich nerd... classic. But PS3 is for Rich Violent people.
As for your motion sensor statement The PS2 Has that and actually puts YOU in the game. Such as Eye Toy Kenetics.

I thnk its a mixture of the fanbase of nintendo/ mistakes and prices of other companies/ its a type of system that people find interesting, you know with the interactive controllers.

Just wait. There will be more. Just wait.
NES had a few hundred games that were decent.
I would be surprised if Duck Hunt for NES was a first person shooter.

Allow me to show it to you in ASCII form.
[+ - - (B) (A)]
The left - is the select and the right - is the start.
It is how it is basically structured out, except the B and A are above the buttons.

i love my WII . this is one system that keeps you off the couch. that is what makes it a better system. i think it's important to exercise and this does keep you moving.

the PS3 is way overpriced. maybe if they lowered the price to be compatible with the other systems it might be worth it. but, the WII def. blows both PS3 & Xbox360 out of the water any day.

just my opinion that's all. :D

i will say why,
its all (nearly) all orginal

look at the nintendo game:
mario, yoshi, zelda etc. etc. nearly all orginal (some race and action games aren't)
look at what kind of games it are
75% adventure
20% sport/race
5% shooter/action
has his own kind of controller, much orginallity and low graphics

look at the ps games:
fifa, harry potter and all kind of that stuff (they have only about 3 self thought characters like spyro)
look at what kind of games it are
40% adventure
50% sport/race
10% shooter/action
best graphics, most harddisk, normal controler

look at the xbox:
i really don't know game titles sorry about that, but i can say they don't have much orginality and nearly all are a bit the same
look at what kind of games it are:
70% shooter/action
20% race
10% adventure
most shooters/action games, normal graphics, normal controler

thats why wii is the best one i think...

Now why the Wii is doing good in sales, its because of its innovation alone. The problem with this is their is no future for A Wii 2. Hell all be surprised it makes the good three year mark. Consumers are already getting bored with it, the lack of games utilizing its new motion sensing technology to the fullest and the one that are, are way to similar. Its successes has also been contributed to by Sony shitting on their customers with a crappy product. Now the 360 is barely lacking in sales. Barley and with the Advent of Halo 3 on Tuesday, you can except that to end. Not to mention GTA in October, Assassins Creed and Mass Effect in November.

Current Market Standings.

42.8% Wii 11.78M

40.3% 360 11.10M

16.9% PS3 4.64M

Sony is looking like it is going to fall out of the gaming business. If Nintendo can keep 51% of the customers overall, they will eventually run microsoft out of the gaming business and become perhaps the champion.

believe me sony won't fall out
the only problem why they didn't sold that much is because its €600,-
see this for an ex.
lets say this is one year
wii 100mil sold
xbox 90mil sold
ps3 20mil sold

now look to the next year
wii 10mil sold
xbox 8mil sold
ps3 30mil sold

why?
because they were getting those 600 bucks and every other one has a wii or xbox because its cheaper and don't need a new one

QFT

Most of the pro-PS3 players (sp?) say the Wii is just a gimmick, which apprently the "gimmick" has dominated the market. Why? Because of the price. Let's face it, most of the video game players are males aged 10-15 years old right? So they don't buy it themselves, they have to ask parents. The lower price point attracts parents to buy it, leading to higher sales.

Also, wisse, you can't count FIFA as a PS3 only game.

The Wii is more than a gimmick. It is the new way to play. :)
