I realized this sounded really bad and i thought i didnt post this and i posted a different topic so would you all forgive me. i dont mean to step on any toes here it is my mistake

I THINK I WISH THIS WAS ON FLAME WARS.

IM NOT JEALOUS OF ANY AMERICANS. THEY ARE MOSTLY FAT ARROGANT IDIOTS.

Brittish are not jelous of americans because of there power and lifestyle, british lifestyle, in many ways is a lot better. Gun crime for instance- there is huge news at the moment because 17 teenagers have died in the last month from guns-In phillidelphia you get that every week.

The problem is that, untill recently, your gouvernment absolutely controlled ours-Iraq wasn't a war the wide majority of british people supported. Blair was just following bush like a dog. whether the war was right or wrong, we have suffered a huge surge in terrorism, including the London bombings, because of it. However, now we have a new prime-minister and are now less dependent on you we no longer feel resentmant. Your currency is crashing, while ours is steady, and, with any luck, we will be able to stop ourselves becoming as internationally unpopular.

also if i may and that europeans generally have strong national identities and traditon,rich culture, history, art etc. people here are more open-minded. those are the things that US will never achieve. i am proud to be an european and think united europe - which will hopefully be achieved in next few decades can compete with america in every way. america has many internal problem such as high crime rate, alienation in big cities, high rate of undereducated people compared to europe, also high percentage of population living on the margins of society because unequal distribution of capital - what all results in general depression in society what your suicide rate, consumption of antidepresives and number of highschool massacres shows...i think the happiness of an average member of the society is more important then political and economical power of that society and if you look it that way US pretty far behind europe.

there are many advantages in US also but don't jump to quick with your conclusion how rest of the world is envious of US. i personally would never like to live there and am perfectly happy where i am so i think most of europeans are.

if you take into account a huge difference in number of population you'll see how this statistic is serious and defeating for a stable society which had no major problems, catastrophes, great changes or war on it's own territory in last 50 or so years like US.(note this is 1999 statistic , now rate in US has probably risen even more due to some recent events)

so are americans happy? is america really land of opportunity and bliss?
that is very questionable. there nothing to be envious really if you think a bit harder.

Balsiefan, its more then a month. I think its for the last 6 months or something because they include those Londoners who were shot, like 4 in a week and that was a few months ago now.

On topic, no Brits are not jealous of America. If anything, we are proud to be different.

i would not like an united europe, but to be a lot closer to the rest of europe than usa. simonov has quite a few good points there.

i`m not jealous of america. i do wish there was a British Tiger Woods or Michael Johnson in his prime as these are/were fine athletes. having said that you are still shit at the only sport that matters and that is Football(real).

no, maybe i used the wrong term. i don't think united in terms of USA - everything would remain the same internally, maybe cooperation between countries could be improved a bit. when i say UNITED i mean it on the global plan both politically and economically.

take for instance this latest war in Iraq: Brits supported US, French didn't, Italy did at first but then backed out and lots of countries chose not to get involved seriously - so we appear like disorganized rabble in the eyes of the world and US can then do what they like. if european countries all agreed on certain viewpoint we could have done more - either should have said all NO (US would then be so trigger-happy about going to war in Iraq), or all should have supported US military action, assist them and ensure our influence on what's happening there - not to let americans behave like cowboys. in current situation we have no power to prevent bad moves american are making or help making situation there go back to normal, we can just sit with arms crossed. and without unity in global political moves europe will become insignificant and impotent to change anything what is happening in the world.
