How do you feel about Birmingham?

I've heard that Birmingham is a widely-despised locale. WhyYyyyy?

Is this true or some sort of "Yank" rumo"u"r?

Probably some kind of "Yank" rumor.

Love the city (Bull ring etc..)

Hate the people (Brummies - get a decent accent :P)

Nothing wrong with Birmingham. Nice city. The accent is a little comical, and leads to even the most educated person sounding slightly dumb, but the city has a lot going for it. Don't think Birmingham or Brummies are hated by anyone really... There's probably more 'hate' directed against Londoners (from the rest of the country, especially up North) because of the tendancy to think that nothing outside of the capital matters a jot.

It's the country's second city, but it fell into something of a localised depression during the 80's and 90's and crime rates there were amongst the highest in the country. Also it's one of the most popular migration zones for immigrants, and it has a history of racially motivated violence and rioting. However it's recently benefitted from the 'Urban Regeneration' scheme, the racism isn't what it used to be, and it's not the economically deprived ghetto that it used to be.

Guiscard is right about the accent though... it's kind of comical.

I lived in Birmingham for 4 years....

It's alright I think...just avoid certain area's. The general 'Brummie' population are tough, and speak with a non-comprehendable drivel...but they are alright though.

Had many a good night out there.

I lived near Birmingham for 5+ years. Its ok, bit of a cultural vacuum though. Thats not to say it isn't multi-cultural, just lacking in culture.

Same could be said about the whole of the UK IMO.

Unless, like me, you find the idea of getting lashed-up, watching footy and chasing ladies cultural.

Oh, and Gambling  though the orientals are a bit partial to that too.

Without reading any of the junk you all said. I think Brits are necessary to help the Americans feel better about them selves, and they give us someone to direct our hate at during peace time.

Didn't the French help us kick your ass so we could become a country? Or did I learn my history wrong. :-k

Well....If the Brittish were not there to cull the french and spanish influence, you would be speaking in either one of the two other languages for a start....and since I assume that you are a descendant of the puritan (freak) influx that began to inhabit the americas before the colonial wars began, I can therefore label you quite correctly as a god botherer, thus making your opinions invalid.

If you would like to continue this conversation, then please start another thread, do not tar my beloved nation anymore in this otherwise pleasent 'brummie-bashing' thread.

kk thx bye.

Well, being from Nebraska, Coleman is probably of Swedish (or the like) descent. If so, it means he is descended from hard-working, golden-haired, aryan-super-race farmers, which doesn't sound so bad.

oh right...I was lead to believe that the picture in his avatar was a pic of him maybe 40 years ago, which would suggest that he is neither blond nor a farmer.

Yes the French did help you.
AND the Spanish.
AND the Dutch.

It was the equivilant of Winston Churchill going into the ring against George Washington, Charles de Gaulle AND a random Dutch guy.
[Are there any famous Dutch people?]
